All of them (cable/telco) have fixed amounts of profit on Telco and TV service.
Internet has a bit more variance:
1. Can they cap your service (more profit)
2. Backbone cost variance
3. Money making from alliances (NebuAd, content providers) and user data
4. Preventing non alliances (Netflix, Bittorrent)

TV/Telco service are not developing products... outside of HD and VoIP itself, what is new on TV? DVR isn't much.

As the Internet matures, I suspect all major carriers would rather sell a 'portal' than a bare bones ISP.
