Aren't the DCT-700 lacking the IP capability to offer channel info and guide? Perhaps ViperNY needs the QIP boxes for that.

Correct - as kes correctly said, the DCT700 is not IP enabled. And with Verizon, no IP, then there's no guide data or VOD. He'll need one of the QIP boxes to get those.
