Apparently you do not realize that there is far more to alt than alt.binaries. Or that plenty of legitimate material is traded in certain alt.binaries groups. Or that it's cheaper for an ISP to receive one copy of a 600MB file than it is 12 or 1200.
Personally? I have no problem with an ISP that doesn't want to take alt.binaries groups. It's a bright line delimiter that eliminates by far the largest amount of bandwidth, while still allowing unfettered access to almost all the actual discussion that takes place.
I have yet to find an ISP run news service that's been usable for mass binary downloading since sometime in the mid 90s, back when most games were distributed on floppies, so all it's doing is improving the more important part of usenet anyway. -- It's wierdo, not weirdo. Yes, I know that's not the 'proper' spelling of the similar english language word. |
