1 edit | Help with email through Worldnet / Covad connection
----------- Mod-note:
At the poster's request, this thread was locked and discussion moved to: »New at&t/Yahoo install. FINALLY got Outlook email to send.
-----------
We are giving up our T-1 internet connection. I ordered a new (att?) DSL install online. Finally got it working. »New Install
With the old T-1 internet connection, emails and internet work fine. When I plug the computers into the New DSL Connection, NONE of our Outlook emails will not work. Internet access works fine.
I tried setting emails as in the following picture that I printed at the end of registration. I can't get ANY of my OUTLOOK emails to send or receive. Corporate email won't even work.

1 edit | That looks helpful. I tried looking at at&t mail setup options and they didn't help at all.
[edit] No go. It still won't send.
Is this DSL connection part of AT&T? I didn't know with the whole 'Covad' thing thrown in there.
I am trying to use Outlook 2003. When I have the computer plugged into my other T-1 connection, it works fine. When I plug the computer in to the DSL connection, the Internet works fine, but I can't get email to send.
What is going to happen with my the boss' laptop whenever he plugs it in here? I have to change email settings? There is no way he is going to put up with messing with it every time he goes home and over to the other office and comes back.
I never REGISTERED an email address with this DSL account. ?? I am thinking that the email address that I originally entered when I signed up is not activated in some way. Even though it is plastered all over these documents that tell me how to connect, it doesn't seem like it is fully functional. I think that it is trying to use that email address to authenticate with and it won't work.
I did go to »www.mail2web.com/ and signed in and it did let me get some test messages that I had sent. So, I know it is partially functional.
This is all I get for response when I try to 'Test Account Settings' in Outlook.

| reply to ttiiggy If I am understanding correctly, you are going to have to change your outgoing mail server to use the att mail server. Your T1 provider will not let you send mail through them while on the DSL.
Try changing one of the users outlook settings to use imailhost.worldnet.att.net port 465 SSL.
If you are using the T1 provider for e-mail and are going to ditch them then you probably have to move your mail as well unless you are keeping the email with them. |

1 edit | I am not using email through either one of the ISPs, not the T-1 provider or Covad DSL. I have email set up with acounts through my head office. I am not trying to use at&t or Yahoo or any of their permutations for email.
When I plug the network cable in to the connection from the T-1, everything works fine. Internet access works. E-mail work. Yahoo InstantMessenger works.
When I plug the network cable in to the connection from the DSL, things are different. Internet access works. I can do email online. E-mail with Outlook 2003 will not send. Yahoo InstantMessenger wouldn't work until I went into Connection and changed it from 'No proxies' to 'Firewall with no proxies'.
Is Covad BLOCKING access to MY head office mail server? |

| Not sure from the Covad end, but AT&T does block outbound port 25 by default for DSL users to cut down on Spam hijacking. There are FAQs here about how to test if this is the case and what to do to workaround or fix the issue.

| reply to ttiiggy Can you telnet to ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net 995 or imailhost.worldnet.att.net 465? They don't respond after you get in except with a blinking underline and maybe an err message when you type in quit or bye commands.
If you can access them with telnet, then that suggests an Outlook set up problem. |

1 edit | reply to ttiiggy I have a worldnett account set up the exact same ways as you do and it works from my sbcglobal Dsl connection.
Added pics for clarity.
you might also try taking the i out of the imail etc.. if memory serves it will work either way or atleast use to.
Also you should also be able to authinticate with att.net as well. with these worldnet accounts. also try what d_l suggest -- Koma If YOu Don't Think It's Possable!! | reply to d_l With my test computer connected to the Covad DSL:
'telnet ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net 995' gives me a quick "Connecting to ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net..." then it blanks out and stays with a blinking underline.
Same thing with the other... 'telnet imailhost.worldnet.att.net 465' gives me a quick "Connecting to imailhost.worldnet.att.net..." then it blanks out and stays with a blinking underline.
I try typing some other commands and the curser moves, but it doesn't show what was typed. After typing some 'end', 'quit', 'bye' ...?? commands, it came back to command line.
It looks like that part is correct. |

| reply to koma3504 I must be missing something.

It won't even TRY to connect.
Can somebody tell me please, please, please tell me how I can just get them to provide access without trying to protect me from myself. This should just WORK without changing settings every time, just because I plugged it into another WORKING InternetAccessProvider. |

| try adjusting your server timeout settings to the max see if it makes a difference.
ok on the 2 different connections are the routers different??? It mat have been asked before but with the new dsl what modem or modem router combo have you got?? |

| Internet access works fine with both connections. Surfing, loading web pages, online email is fine. Outlook email only works on the T-1 connection.
The T-1 connection is connected through a Cisco 2600 series router. It has a Cisco Pix 506E Firewall box in the mix. That works fine. Just that it is going away in a couple of weeks.
On the DSL connection I have tried it 2 separate ways.
1) AT&T/Covad sent me a Broadxent BritePort DSL Modem-only box. With that modem, I have one computer that I have made a PPoE session on to log-on and connect. With that computer, I can connect to the internet, but email won't send.
2) I have an Efficient SpeedStream 5861 Modem/Router box that I have entered the log-on info. It connects and seems to work fine, except Outlook email won't send. |

| Ok to me it would seem like it is a issue with the Att/Covad connection and if your still having the yahoo instant messenger problems. you can try setting usea proxy connection in the connection preferences of yahoo messenger. and enable http proxy
server name cs17.msg.dcn.yahoo.com port 5050 or 127.0.0.1 port 5050
other than that your circuit must be corupt have you tried calling covad ?? -- Koma If YOu Don't Think It's Possable!! It's Acually A Reality!!The best way to predict the future is to invent it. Alan Kay!! Ya Don't Know The signal Till Ya Ride It!! Voice Break's There's Trouble!!!! |

| I'm not really having PROBLEMS with YahooIM, it just took some changes to the settings on all of the computers to make it work.
Nope haven't tried calling yet. I think they are open until midnight. Maybe now would be a good time to not have to wait on hold and listen to the classical music for toooo long. Do they play that music to make the geeks to call less? I know, stereo-typing to say that geeks don't like CM... I don't mind CM but prefer CountryMusic. Guess that is CM, too. I wouldn't put up with it if it was too heavy metal or (C)rap music. It is pretty bad to try to listen to it with it cutting out every ? seconds. Must be the big brother thing listening to see what we are talking about while we 'think' we are on hold... |

| Let's get you on the right track. Forget anything about it being on the circuit, it's definitely a configuration issue.
Have you tried another computer? What kind of firewall/AV/spyware stuff do you run? Have you tried another client?
Everything about the telnet test says things are working. It's doing what it should be doing. |

| I disconnected this computer from the entire rest of my LAN. This computer is all alone by itself plugged into the Broadxent BritePort DSL Modem-only box. I set up an 'ATT DSL' PPoE connection on this computer to connect the Broadxent BritePort DSL Modem-only box.
I went in to Outlook and set the Connection to use 'My Phone Line' and Use the following Dial-Up Networking connection: ATT DSL.
That works. I can send email with Outlook through this connection on this ONE computer. That is fine for ONE computer. What am I supposed to do for the other 6 computers on my network? |

| said by koma3504 :Did you ever get any one @ covad??? I got a very persistant tech. She was so persistant and determined to fix my problem, she wouldn't pass me on to anybody else. She had me go through her scripts 3 times. She said that even the 'other' people don't have much training in getting Outlook to work. ?? When we got it to work on my one computer, she said it works, so the rest is not her problem. Excuse me.?? How are my other computers supposed to work? Can't I use a router? Apparently not. NOW what? I guess another phone call tomorrow. |
