| [FireFox] FavIcons broken in FF 3.0
After upgrading, several of my bookmarks in the bookmark toolbar are showing the wrong favicons. I have tried deleting the bookmarks and restoring and they still come back with the wrong icon even if the right icon shows in the address bar.
Clearing private data did not help.
There must be a simple way to get these bookmarks to point to the correct icon.

I use AM-Deadlink to get rid of favicons in bookmarks. -- "If it ain't broke don't fix it." |

1 edit | Thanks. I just ran AM-Deadlink against my Firefox bookmarks and it failed to fix the bad favicons. I set it to over-ride existing. I also tried to get it to assign a local icon and that still failed.
What's the hard way? I hope it doesn't involve learning how to use SQlite? -- "Old age is always 15 years older than I am." (Francis Bacon) |

Have you tried removing all favicons, they will be set next time you visit the sites anyway. -- "If it ain't broke don't fix it." |

| I just tried setting
browser.chrome.favicons browser.chrome.site_icons
...to false. Restarted Firefox and the icons were all still there, including the bad ones.
How do I actually delete all the icons? I'd rather do that then try to learn SQL. -- "Old age is always 15 years older than I am." (Francis Bacon) |

| MoFo did not make it easy.
I ended up using SQLite Database Browser to remove the fav icon feature permanently.
It was really easy to use even for a SQL novice like me. -- "We must look for consistency. Where there is a want of it we must suspect deception". |

| Okay, I broke down and tried SQLite and saw that the favicon table was hopelessly corrupted. I deleted the whole table and that removed all existing favicons.
I have most of them back, but a few seem a little hesitant about inserting themselves into their URLs. I thought I could automate getting the icons back with AM-Deadlink, but it failed completely.
Opening all favorites into tabs wasn't pretty either. I like favicons, but your are right. It sure isn't easy to refresh them.
Uh, oh. Just noticed that FF 3.0 is jumping up and down like a bug in an earlier version. -- "Old age is always 15 years older than I am." (Francis Bacon) |

Told you SQlite was easy to use. |

| reply to jmorlan YOu could try with these extensions:
»https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3176
The second one needs to be bumped up to make it work with FX3 |

| Thanks. The first one compresses open tabs to the width of the icon. The second is of more interest, but I don't think bumping it will work. The FF3 bookmark system has been rewritten. I think that's why AM-Deadlink doesn't work with favicons in the new FF.
Anyway, I'm in good shape. The new icons are slowly settling in as I browse. -- "Old age is always 15 years older than I am." (Francis Bacon) |

| reply to jmorlan I'll be the first to say its rather silly and superficial BUT I want my favorite icons tweaking and customizing back.....
With the changes noted in FF3 regarding this feature I take it getting favicon2 to work in FF3 is more than just changing some simple id information to allow FF3 to think its ok to use? |
