For my purposes, that's more than fast enough. 5 was pretty blah, but 10 would be fine to me. You'd think they'd pump 20 up to 25 or 30.

| Re: Verizon pushing FiOS internet to 50Mbps throughout US I just called to resolve a billing issue and asked the CSR about 20/20 in my area in California. She didn't know about it but did some digging on her side. She said 20/20 "footprint" was scheduled to roll out for next week, but didn't find anything more specific than that. | |

| Re: Verizon pushing FiOS internet to 50Mbps throughout US That is an interesting question - the press release says that the 50/20 tier will replace the 30/15 tier where it exists, at the same price ($89.95). That is the tier I currently have - I wonder if we'll get automatically bumped?

I have the 30/5 tier(which isn't offered here anymore) for $55 a month. I would love for that to get bumped to 50mbs. Although once my contract is up I would be willing to pay $90(current price for 30/15) for it but not $140.

If I read the news right it seems to say that soon...within a Month?...I will be upgraded to 10/2. However, another way to read it is that it is for new customers only. Does anyone know? This could help with them cutting off most Newsgroups!

I am under contract and Verizon has said in the past that if I make any changes in service that my price will go up to the new price. I wonder if upgrading to 10/2 will cause my price to go up.

Wish I could use the online management stuff.. I had FIOS for 3 months, never received an account number and verizon.com requires account number to create an account, account number is on the bill that I cant view without an account number!
Proof that Verizon is the worst tech support and website out there, I'm not even going to waste my time calling.

| Re: Verizon pushing FiOS internet to 50Mbps throughout US I am in a sticky situation now. I don't have Verizon phone service (I have internet/TV) so everything is based off of an account number. Verizon lives and dies by having a phone number as an "account number". If you don't have phone service, Verizon requires payment via credit card. Also, you don't receive a billing statement.
I log into Verizon.net because it will show the internet portion of my bill. It has an account number on it so whenever I need to call Verizon, I can log in and get the account number for Verizon. They have changed the website so now it takes me to Verizon.com in order to see my bill. Verizon.com requires a phone number. I don't have phone service! I am not sure what I am going to do as I want the free upgrade announced by Verizon in this thread.

| I can't use the online account thing either for my business (internet-only) FiOS account.
It requires the account phone number, which is my residential FiOS phone number. So it says it can't register the account for a business service against a residential number -- perl -le 'print $i=pack(c5,(8**2+3**2),42-10,sqrt(3600),oct(63),(unpack(c, "&")-6)),pack(c7, (70,114,101,101,66,83,68))'

It only took about two minutes to go from 15/2 to 15/15 although I upgraded by calling billing though. It would be fairly easy to make it near instant online as well but I guess Verizon chooses not to.

I think the online ordering/upgrade process just adds entries to a queue, and they are processed during normal business hours. It's like calling in, but the order is submitted automatically, but not processed automatically. Someone from verizon can correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt it's an automatic process from start to finish (though yes, that would be nice). -- perl -le 'print $i=pack(c5,(8**2+3**2),42-10,sqrt(3600),oct(63),(unpack(c, "&")-6)),pack(c7, (70,114,101,101,66,83,68))'

| Re: Verizon pushing FiOS internet to 50Mbps throughout US You're most likely right in how its handled. I wonder if Verizon realizes they could easily decrease workload among techs by employing real-time, computer generated upgrades for anything that doesn't require a truck roll or user intervention. Not only would their customers be happy, they would save money when new services become available that involve nothing more than a simple "switch". (Then again maybe speed upgrades are more complicated on FiOS. On cable its just a matter of telling your modem to download a different config) | |

Your services records are scattered all over in Vz's computers. They wouldn't trust an auto-program to find them correctly and then modify them. You think we see some errors now.

Well, I upgraded online for the same price yesterday, and it gave me an "Order Effective Date: 07-02-2008" in the confirmation e-mail. It is hard to believe that this should take 10+ days since it is just a configuration change....
We'll see... | |
