Wow yet another biased news story

How about you report the story with less bias?
Maybe actually note that the hit over 6 million downloads, and they may have hit a million downloads within 4 hours?

its OK to not write with a bias Karl, Most people like Mozilla! It's not like the cable companies that you love to rip apart on the front page.

All he was saying is that they had issues handling the traffic. I don't see that as terribly biased.

But they broke the record within hours of starting it. Is not that the better story?

Its kind of like CNN reporting that someone finally finds a cure to cancer after years of work and DSLR reporting "Person fails to cure cancer many times"

It's great that they did (although resetting the clock to me is a bit bogus). But also not being able to handle the traffic is important also.

If someone is going to try to break the record, they SHOULD be prepared to handle the massive traffic that will head their way.

There was no bias there. Mozilla wanted to break a record, they couldn't handle the load and died. They then fixed the issues and started again and didn't die...

Are you kidding me? All Karl reported was that the attempt to break the record started off rough because their servers couldn't handle the load.

Quit identifying yourself with a browser and go outside. Life's out there.

the 4 hours for a million downloads makes the reset point moot.

How is the server going down news then? Its still a negative reporting slant no matter how you slice it. the current counter shows over 6 million downloads and there is still time to go. Of course there is going to be hiccups when your trying to serve that kind of load.

And that is what Karl reported.

As for the reset point, I just feel that 24 hours is 24 hours, not 24 hours of uptime per se.

Again, kudos to them for doing it, but I don't see the slant you do. You yourself said there is going to be hiccups and that is what Karl reported.

Biased?

If you feel it's so biased, don't visit the front page. Simple.

Because they announced they were trying to break a record and had some issues. This IS a technical website and that is a technical aspect of the attempt.

One sentence and you think the whole story is biased? Get real. I personally don't see anything but positive things in this article. So the servers buckled, it happens when people have been waiting for this for over a year now. It was bound to happen.

And it took 13Gbps of traffic for them to buckle. As a network infrastructure engineer for a web application, WOW! I'd HATE to have to plan for a sudden spike to 13Gbps in traffic.

I think it speaks volumes that it took THAT much traffic to take them offline, but they identified the problem, fixed it, and have been up ever since at that same traffic level no problems.

Fanaticism makes me laugh and shake my head at the same time. I just don't get it.

But they Karl did not write it as "Firefox servers serve up at 13gbps" He choose to write about how they had a rocky start with little metion of how they are currently running or that they have already crossed 6million downloads.

If you dont see bias, fine, but i do.

I was going to put this as a headline;

Terrorist internet warlords attack glorious Mozilla foundation website.

I thought this current one would be more offensive though. Maybe it should be changed.

When Karl reported that the Firefox team was attempting to set a record yesterday, the very first question that popped into my mind was, "but can the servers handle it?"

So, for him to report that the servers buckled under the load answers my question. It's overall a positive thing; that means they had even more traffic than they were expecting. It's a perfectly factual and reportable event, and I would absolutely expect to read about it here.

Frankly, these "biased news story" comments are getting tiresome. If you don't like the way Karl reports and interprets news, go somewhere else to read the news. Or complain about it to the site's owners in an appropriate forum.

He reported what happened, step outside into the daylight and see what reality is. Just because you've been used to getting a shiny outlook an all things for profit doesn't mean it's the reality out there.

The real word has issues and things fail and sometimes (like in this case) they change the rules to make things shiny again.

this is a broadband website first, not a software website. I think Karl (correctly) focused on the bandwidth used per second and the servers not handling the load because that's what the users of this website may be a bit more interested in.

However, it certainly would not have hurt for him to point out the total number of downloads, etc... if that information was available. Biased reporting? no. It's just an incomplete story that should have had some more detailed info.
