Vehicle Safety Inspection

I am in the process of selling my car. Where could I do that at a cheap price?

I don't know what they charge, Virginia does it differently.

Maryland is very odd - they permit a shop that has a registered inspector to charge up to 1.5 hours of labor for the inspection. This time includes the headlight adjustment. So basically what you pay can vary depending on the shop labor fee. $55 is on the cheap end of the spectrum.

A lot of service stations are certified to do state inspections. When you are out driving, keep an eye out for gas stations with garages. They normally put out signs on their lamp posts or in the grass edging advertising their ability to inspect vehicles.

Ok, so what happens if a Md resident is selling a vehicle to someone NOT a resident of Md. Does a state inspection still happen and what exactly does the "safety inspection" consist of. Reason asking is I might be purchasing a vehicle from someone who lives in Federick now. Here in Va the only inspection required is yearly and must be performed prior to new or current registration.

Maryland inspection on a PRIVATE party sale is not required to be done by the seller as long as the buyer agrees to it. Selling it to an out of stater required NO inspection in Maryland, the buyer is responsible for any inspection in their home State.

Again if you are a Maryland resident (private seller not a dealer) selling to another Maryland resident the car HAS to be inspected but it can be done by the seller or the buyer (seller/buyer have to decide how to handle)

Thanxs, that is what I thought. I have seen numerous ads from sellers in Md and many state they have a vehicle inspection certification or whatever they are called. I wasn't sure if the inspection was required regardless of who is purchasing it.

I always take any vehicle I am looking to buy to my own mechanic, Currys, to inspect prior to purchasing. Saves me future aggravation.
