| Starcraft + Speedstream 4200 + WRT54G = latency
I have the basic problem, I can play 1 v 1 full speed, but anymore results in horrible latency.
I have forwarded all recommended ports at my router and my dsl modem. I have enabled dmz at both before. I hate tried connecting directly to the dsl mode. I have tried using the USB connection from the modem.
Nothing I have tried works as of yet, any help would be appreciated. |

| reply to nstinson What DSL speed plan do you have?
What are the Sync Rates showing in the Modem?
What are your SNR and Attenuation values?
Have you tried using the 4200 in Bridge Mode and having the Router handle the PPPoE and Port Forwarding as seen in this thread below?
»[Network] speedsteam 4200 +linksys wrt54g
Once you are setup as seen above, please post an image of the Port Forwarding page.

| reply to nstinson Sounds like double NAT issue. You connected directly to the modem, but did you enable dmz to modem? Try resetting the modem, and then connecting the router to the modem, and then set the modem to PPPoE (put in WS username/pw). THEN forward ports 6112-6112 TCP AND UDP and this should fix your problem. |

| reply to Doctor Olds I read that, but it didn't make any sense to me (my router wouldn't handle some of the steps, in particular, the router didn't have an option of logging into my username or password, and by resetting the modem, the internet and network didn't work until I provided my u/n and pass to connect)
1.5 Mbps dsl
unsure of how to check those values.. but.. I think... Atten. looks like 21.5 most of the time, SNR 16.5-17.0 range |

| reply to nstinson sounds like an overloaded dslam.
there are hundreds of modems setup in lexington with the modem holding the username and password and a wrt54g and the router setup in dhcp mode. you know why because i see ALOT Of them that way after the windstream tech leaves.
not only that if its been working BEFORE and just now starts acting up, all the more reason its something with the dsl service |

There is an image for the Linksys that shows you what to fill out and where in that thread.

If yes, you have not set it up like that topic, then you've not tried one of the most common fixes.
Anyway we will get to that in a little bit, but first there still need to be answers from you for the questions that were posted before.
1] What DSL speed plan do you have? 1.5/384 Is that correct?
2] What are the Sync Rates showing in the Modem? ATU-C 0000000 (bits/sec) | ATU-R 000000 (bits/sec) This still needs answering.
3] What are your SNR and Attenuation values? SNR 16.5 dB | Atten 21.5 dB Is that correct?
4] Have you tried using the 4200 in Bridge Mode and having the Router handle the PPPoE and Port Forwarding? (Yes/No) No
I assume that #4's answer is "No" since you were not able to follow the steps in the other thread. Please update and/or fill in the missing answers to the questions above.

| Before I get a chance to work on this later...
"OK, what didn't make any sense to you? Are you talking about the steps in this post? There is an image for the Linksys that shows you what to fill out and where in that thread."
my linksys didn't look anything like that, and that's where I ran into problems with the steps when I started from the top. There was no option to log in using PPPoE that I could see |

| Ok, update...
I figured out how to enable PPPoE on my linksys. I reset my modem, and then I enabled PPPoE and logged into it via my linksys. Afterwards, the internet would not work on this computer (but would on another), and I could not connect to the modem anymore via either computer to get to enable the DHCP
my atu-c and atu-r are: UP 3072000 384000 respectively.
on the NAT page of my modem, it has... PPPoE 0/35 NAPT ONLY enabled 2684(0) 0/35 NAPT ONLY enabled |

said by nstinson :Afterwards, the internet would not work on this computer (but would on another), and I could not connect to the modem anymore via either computer to get to enable the DHCP You do not connect to the Modem anymore while PPPoE is active in the Linksys since the Linksys has it's very own DHCP running. To access the otherwise normally hidden Modem temporarily, you change the Linksys from PPPoE to DHCP and then you lose the Internet connection while you have regained access to the Modem. After looking at the Modem, but not making any changes you put the Linksys setting back to PPPoE and connect back to the Internet.
The no Internet problem is your PC likely still had an old IP Address from the Modem and needed to get a new IP from the Linksys instead. Follow the steps below.
How to: Release and Renew IP Address in Windows 2000/XP/Vista. »www.windowsreference.com/windows···vista-2/
said by nstinson :my atu-c and atu-r are: UP 3072000 384000 respectively. OK. That is the 3 Mbps plan and it shows to be syncing at the correct speed. Looks normal which is good.
said by nstinson :on the NAT page of my modem, it has... PPPoE 0/35 NAPT ONLY enabled 2684(0) 0/35 NAPT ONLY enabled 100% Normal for a Bridge/Router Modem.
Now you need to fix the PC running Starcraft with a Static IP before you can begin to Forward *any* Ports..Once that is done then you are at the 2/3rds mark.
How To setup a Static IP Address in XP »portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
How To setup a Static IP Address in Vista »portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm
Now that is done, then you can Forward the correct ports to that Static IP after you pick your Router from the list.

That would be the last stage.
