Offer An Option

I wonder if Verizon would be willing to allow for subscribers to simply pay them to run fiber to their homes? If anything, that would solve the profitability question and there probably are more than a few people who would take Verizon up on such an offer.

Re: Offer An Option

interesting idea, but i'm not sure if i would want to pay them to fiber because fiber isn't exactly cheap. there is also the whole legal issue of who 'owns' the fiber from your house to the node.

I think you underestimate the cost of deploying FTTH to a specific home. Very few would be willing to pay the cost, which would likely be in the 5 digit range.

And it isn't like there are no rich people who live in the middle of nowhere. I am pretty certain that if this option is offered, some would avail themselves of it.

Re: Offer An Option

That would be OC-x service. It is offered if you're will to pay for it.

Re: Offer An Option

OC-x only provides data and business class phone service. It would be interesting if Verizon would support provisioning OC-x with POTS or Video. I am sure the engineering for that is too complicated to support a few users. But, you never know.

Many businesses have flat screen tv's these days. Most are satellite. Verizon may be able to milk some more money from their Video infrastructure if they could provision it on OC-x lines.
