$$$

Looks like Verizon ran out of things to sell to fund the rollout.

FTTN is the best solution to me. More people getting next gen technology quicker. FTTH is way to costly.

Run wireless from node to homes is what they should aim at. Too bad the technology is not there yet.

Verizon will now join the others hated as evil corporations ...

... like AT&T and Comcast and TW. Oh the angst this will cause all those singing Verizon's praises all these past months.

And now those Greedy Docsis 3 cable companies will actually have FASTER service to the home than Verizon does as they start rolling out FTTN in many areas to save money.

No matter how I look at it Verizon is still out on top, because unlike those greedy Docsis 3 cable companies we are seeing faster then docsis 3 speeds for prices that are much less from verizon. Your pick 50/20 for 140 a month, or 50/5 for 150 a month, not to mention that comcast is the only one to offer something like that in the cable zone this far and only to specific zones. Verizon is allowing these speeds across the country which allows their user's to get it now rather then bathe in the sun while waiting for docsis 3 to come.

No matter how I look at it TK Junk Mail, cable isn't faster the FIOS, and if the current model stand's it never will be. Not to mention the current system cable uses atm can't even maintain their slow 8/1 speeds at peak times while FIOS does without any problem's whatsoever.

If verizon came to my area I'd dump my 2 TWC modems and 1 DSL Line for 140 a month any day and switch over to fios 50/20 without a second thought.

I just love how some twist it from "sparsely populated areas" to "many areas". Nevermind that these are the areas that those same people complained were never going to see service anyway, but at least may now get a little something.

I'm sorry, but I just get a kick from all those corporate haters that put aside their passion to raise Verizon up as the "good guy". I may be a corporate flunky as many accuse me, but I sure never lost my cynicism about what corporations are all about - making money and ONLY making money. To those who understand that unalterable fact, the actions of Verizon to not roll out Fios across the land to all the faithful is no surprise at all.

I'd be interested in hearing how many customers per square mile equals "sparsely populated."

pspcrazy, what aggregate b\w are you getting on that ultra-shotgun rig?

Also, I have to agree that Verizon will roll out FiOS in any place where DOCSIS 3 comes out. Since DOCSIS 3 takes money, there will have to be enough customers to pay for that infrastructure before the rollout, and thus Verizon would have a similar density advantage.

So yes, some places that are served by Verizon may just have FTTN services. You know, the places where the cable operator max's out at 10/1 or less. Or places that are too far out of twon for terrestrial access currently (thus limiting them to usually 3/1 or worse on the wireless side). But it'll always be an improvement over what the current situation would be. And where there's enough people for cable to roll out DOCSIS 3, you betcha there's gonna be FiOS there if it's a VZ area.

Well, I never thoughtof Verizon as the "good guy". Just the ones with the better plan right now. The problem with the others is that they keep trying to take more money and give you less. That's all fine and good, but when push comes to shove, I'll put my money where I will get my biggest ROI, and currently I feel that's Verizon. It has nothing to do with any particular love for them. And Verizon has said from the start they wouldn't deploy FIOS everywhere, but those areas that would have never seen it may now get something. That's not a "good guy" move, it's a smart business move that just happens to have some benefit to those people.

Using Clark Connect I should be getting a maximum of 15+15+6 for download and 2+2+768 kbps for upload. So... 36/2.7 but in reality I'm expecting it to be much lower. The cable guy is coming to install the 2 modem's today as It's not setup yet. I'll keep you updated Hokounochi is doing the same deal except with 2x the amount of connections lol.

Honestly though I wish I could get the 50/20 1 connection. It would make my life easier, allow me to actually have upload speeds I need for once in my life, and best of all I could get rid of the load balancing server which also eats up my electricity :\

Who say's Verizon is the good guy? They are just better then the other guy's out there. They give us what we want for acceptable prices. It's as simple as that.

Also at the end just accepting what corporations are will lead to us having very little options and advantages in the future. When a large group of consumers complain corporations will be forced to change their services/prices to match what the user's want.

If you read my post you would see that I said that NO corporation(and that includes Comcast) does anything out of the goodness of their hearts.

So what's your point then? That rural areas stay stuck with Comcast's capped/throttled/crappy service?
No one here has a financial/idealistic interest in ANY of the corporations around here TK, and NO ONE thinks that any business for that matter serves us out of altruism. I'm just trying to inject some common sense into the proceedings...
Also, since you clearly understand the notion of corps existing ONLY to make money, I hope we agree that screwing the customer is one of those ideas that fall within this category. Furthermore, I hope we agree that it encompasses various unethical practices performed by CERTAIN industries . Crippling music with DRM, for instance.

I'm glad we can concur on the above.
