| reply to TigerLord Re: Struggling with GIC (Gaming Identity Crisis)
I know how you feel! I got into a rut where I got tired of certain games and others felt repetitive. I went from playing games all night long to just playing for an hour here and there. I even started watching movies in 30-40min parts (weird I know).
I ended getting out and just doing other things like you said. I back got into mountain biking, reading, hanging with the wife, Wii, etc. Now playing games is more enjoyable. Ill have friends over and well play TF2 for a few hours every now and then. I recently went out a bought a bunch of games (Gears of War, Bioshock, RS:Vegas 2, Crysis) and havent even played 2 of them. On the weekend Ill throw one in and just play for an hour or so. |

| reply to Nightfall I know what you mean, although I've been playing PC games only since DOS 3.1. I still remember when I played Dune - man, was I hooked!
EVE-Online is the only game that kept me hook for almost three years now. Reason for that is that there's just so much to do and the PvP is so intense that you can keep playing it forever. I did take two breaks though. I started my own corp a few weeks ago and just moved into nullsec, good times.
I also tried AoC and unsubscribed after 2 weeks with my PoM at lvl 55. Grinding sucks, totally.
Mass Effect was a lot of fun though. |

| reply to Nightfall Everyone here is going to laugh when I tell them what has been filling my gaming evenings....but here we go.
Max Payne and Max Payne 2 Yes, you heard it right. I bought them both off steam because I sold my copies years ago. I have really enjoyed these games the last few weeks.
For multiplayer, I am playing Call of Duty 4. Never played it multiplayer before, and firing it up just got my adrenaline pumping. Even my wife will tell you just how much fun I am having with that game. The hardcore settings are ultra realistic. Plus, the single player is a blast! I also like the multiplayer unlockable abilities.
I am still playing eve online a bit, and I have been struggling with the learning curve still. However, it is a fun game.
I am biding my time, waiting for the Warhammer MMORPG to come out in September. Maybe by then I will be ready to come back into MMOs more seriously again. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

| reply to Nightfall Dawn of War is a awesome game. I really only play against the computer players and there are players out there who like that. I am not a big 1v1 or 2v2 pvp player when it comes to this game. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

| reply to sixstring said by sixstring :said by beatsnpieces :If you want a truly memorable PC game experience I would suggest STALKER (provided you dont hit any bugs) and Mass Effect. Company of Heroes is probably the best RTS out there, in all honesty I never got really into it simply because the WWII setting has worn me down at this point, but the gameplay is just awesome and truly innovative for the RTS genre, had it been a modern combat or sci-fi setting CoH would probably be among my top 5 favorite games of all time. If you enjoy dark humour and can dont mind the fact that it looks like a kids game at first glance I would give Psychonauts a try as it is brilliantly written and executed and quite hilarious. Have you tried Dawn of War? It's basically a Sci-Fi COH. :O Actually I haven't, but thanks to you I now intend to do so. Cheers! |

| reply to Nightfall I go through this all the time. I have been playing video games for as long as I can remember. When I started to actually have my own systems, I got into those "I'm bored" phases and still do. I call them my PC and console gaming phases cause I'll only want to play one or the other. Just switch it up, go out and do something and take a break for a bit. The gamer inside will come back to you. |

| reply to Nightfall Time to revisit games 10 years and older. If you don't have the systems you have VC on Wii.
If you cannot appreciate beating those games again then this is destiny telling you that your time is going to be needed for some other things very soon. |

| reply to Nightfall I want to say thanks to everyone who offered their advice and help. I have went the route of reinstalling my Dawn of War game as well as Max Payne. I am going to be purchasing Stalker soon as I have heard good things about that. Bioshock was the best game I have played recently, and continuing in those lines may be a good option. I want a game with a strong storyline and good gameplay.
My time with MMOs overall is down. I am still playing Eve Online, but only sparingly. WoW is out for me at the moment, but I might pick it back up in a few months. I am eager to try out Warhammer.
As for games that are coming out, I am very eager to try out the new Golden Axe for the PS3. I have my sights set on MGS4 as well. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

| reply to Nightfall said by Nightfall :As for a solid RTS, I really enjoyed Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. Maybe it is time to reinstall DoW again. The only bummer is that I can't compete with other players online very well. They just know the game inside out and backwards and I don't have the thirst to compete online anymore. I have some friends that I play RTS games with. We co-op against the computer over the internet (talking via Ventrilo), this allows for differences in player skill levels (people will ask for help when they need it) and we can adjust the computer difficulty to where everyone can be challenged. (We do this at most a couple of times a week for a couple of hours at a time.)
I have no idea how to fix GIC though. -- "You are technically correct. The best kind of correct." -Bureaucrat 1.0 |

| reply to Edge1 said by Edge1 :Sounds like you focus on MMO and RPG a lot. Could it be that you may enjoy a solid RTS as a change of pace? I thoroughly loved Rome:Total War, although it is older. There's always Medieval TW:2, World In Conflict, or Company of Heroes. Dawn of War if you like fantasy-based. I find that I genuinely enjoy RTS a lot more as I get older. FPS is fun, but its short-lived for me. Never did MMO, and have yet to truly immerse myself in RPG. Another thing is, I don't have enough to time to game as much as I want, so that actually keeps me hungry. I don't RPG at all actually. MMO I used to with WoW, so maybe you could consider WoW to be an RPG as well. As for a solid RTS, I really enjoyed Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. Maybe it is time to reinstall DoW again. | reply to JIGA said by JIGA :I've been through the same crisis Nightfall. Over a year ago I got rid of my WoW account, a 70 Human Lock, 60 Dwarf Hunter, and a 70 Cow Hunter. Got rid of it as in won't be getting it back... so I was pretty devoted at quiting the game. I moved on to playing NavyField for about a year then got burnt on that game as well. I jumped around playing CSS, DOD:S, Raven Shield, BF2, Arma, and CoD4. Of all those games I would play in small spurts of an hour or so then get bored. To me, it seems nothing really new and inspiring has came out. They are rehashed games that we have already played with a different skin. CoD4 single player was fun, I actually played through that but it only last a whopping 6+ hours My buddies recently got me back into WoW. So here I am with a fresh new account playing a character I haven't played before, a UD Rogue. So far I'm at 48 and stopped to PVP in the 40-49 bracket and I'm having a blast. So for now, WoW has sparked interest again. Not to sure if I'm looking forward to Warhammer... don't think I would want to do the level grind again, plus it doesn't have a stealth class which I find I really enjoy now. My WoW account is in limbo right now. I did have thoughts on selling it, but I am going to keep it and call it good. I left the game back in November of 2005 and came back in April of 2006. Will I do the same thing again after leaving over 2 months ago? Maybe. Right now I am enjoying the fact that I don't have to do any of the end game crap right now. I devoted a lot of time and energy to raiding at first, and while it was fun, spending 5 hours a night 3-4 nights a week was just too much. Part time raiders don't get any gear at all, so I ditched that after a while. PVP was a little nicer, but I just did it for fun and with the new PR requirements for arena gear, I wouldn't get that much.
I hit the same thing back in the day where I got tired of the grind and started my account back up with a new faction. I might do the same thing again down the road. |
