A good laptop for $1500...

Can anyone recommend a good laptop in terms of performance and good graphics. And it has to have a 15" or bigger screen.

I bought the following in early March and received $400.00 Off. So the total with NY Tax came in at $1,275.25. It is beautiful but I also bought a new Dell desktop with a blu ray drive so am not even using the laptop. Has maybe 3 hours on it watching a blu ray movie...Thinking maybe even selling it unless I start using it more..

Anyway, here are the specs.

Re: A good laptop for $1500...

You should be able to get more than that for that price on the 9700 now.

I just configured it with

- 512MB 8600GS
- 320GB HDD
- Blu-ray drive
- 3GB of RAM

Sub-Total = $1475
-$500 coupon ( NB4796 )

Total = $975

The coupon code NB4796 should work on most HP laptops price $1399+.

Of course if gaming is a big deal, you'll want to find one with at least the 8800M . The 8600 isn't 'bad', but the 8800 is much much better gaming performance.

OR go with the HP HDX Pavilion

- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1 Ghz / 800Mhz bus / 3MB L2 Cache)
- 20.1" Widescreen
- 2GB RAM
- 512MB 8800M GTS
- FREE Upgrade to 320GB HDD
- Integrated HP HDTV Hybrid TV Tuner and 4 Altec Lansing speakers +the HP Triple Bass Reflex subwoofer
- 9 cell battery
- LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
- HP Imprint Finish (Dragon) + Microphone + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam

Sub-total = $1949
- $500 coupon

Total = $1449

Re: A good laptop for $1500...

That gateway is easily the best laptop buy right now. It has a very powerful mobile GPU, and decent CPU - for the price of 1400 dollars, you can't beat it.

Although I am not particularly a Gateway lappy fan, that is one very nice configuration for the price! Certainly a good one to check out!

Get gateway P-6860FX. Wait for 1249 deal or just get it for 1349. It is the best laptop around for that price. In adition, 8800m GTS is just a beast. It is ranked 4th (only Nvidia GeForce Go7950GTX SLI, Nvidia GeForce 8800M-GTX and Nvidia GeForce 8800M-GTX SLI beats it) in High End Notebook video cards. It beats 8600m to dust like nothing. Its like young mike tyson versus drunk bum on the street.
Another great thing about P-6860FX, is that you can add another hdd and have 640GB in total. Also this lappy is easy upgradeable. Take off the t5500 sell it for 150-200 or whatever it goes for, and put t9500 or t9300. t9300 goes for $319. P-6860FX bios supports these processors.
I am planning on gettin P-6860FX myself at the end of the summer IF i find nothing better.
It is just retarded... why gateway selling these so cheap? P-6860FX is worth at least 2000$.

edit: Just in case; people who follows the notebook market, let me know if any other good laptops (around 1500$, upgradeable (cpu and hdd), 4 gb ram, at least 8800m gts, i prefer 8800m gtx, NO sli) are coming out during the month of august? I need new one for upcoming school year.
Thanks in advance

edit2: i just read some of the reviews. P-6860FX was on sale for 1000-1099, just makes no sense lol.
