Verizon bundles

For those of you out there with the double play or better with Verizon, I want to know what fees get tacked on to the Freedom Essentials home phone plan. I know what to expect with TV and internet, but I've never had an "inclusive" home phone plan (first basic service w/ 3rd party long distance provider, then voip). As a line item on your bill, what stuff gets tacked on (and how much)? I assume the FLSC and some local taxes get levied. Is that correct? I just remember even with my local service, I was paying ~$15/month in various fees/taxes. Is it the same with Freedom Essentials? I'm considering going with the ultimate package since I'm already an internet and wireless customer, want TV, and as I understand it, Verizon requires home phone service with any package. I'd like to know what that package price will actually run after the impact of home phone fees/taxes.

Re: Verizon bundles

You are correct, depending on the state you live, it is about $15 in taxes, give or take a few dollars.

On my bill here in PA, the taxes/fees are about $14 and change for Freedom Essentials. The package for us was pretty much even-Steven cost wise to what we had buying a la carte prior with our relatively low usage of the phone (we are more email-oriented...LOL) but would be a really good deal if we called more.

Don't know what the discounts look like, but you can now create a triple play with wireless, internet, and TV.

Re: Verizon bundles

The triple play discount on wireless is $6, IIRC.

Lets just say it's about 10$ cheaper to have FIOS + basic phone service then to have double play.

This is why we don't do any of the bundles

Re: Verizon bundles

This might vary by state but toll calls are extra with local landline phone service. If you take the default bundle option for phone service, local, toll and out of state calls are included, plus calls to Canada, Mexico and Guam. So it really depends on your calling habits whether you save or not.

Thanks everyone. So basically Freedom essentials is about $60 ($45 + ~$15 fees). I'm not sure I see the value in any Verizon package because of that. Any break you get just offsets the ridiculous landline price and fees. I think I'll just stick with my voip and go a la carte.

On a separate note, why isn't the FSLC disclosed? Just to pull the wool over our eyes? I mean, after all, it's the same for every US customer (hence federal). I mean, I understand they don't want to disclose local fees since they vary by state/county/town.

That's fairly accurate. The advantages to weigh with the triple are a proper connection to 911 if you need it, and the BBU on the ONT will keep the phone up for a while if the data connection is lost. It's a personal judgment call. If you go triple over voip, Vz wins, as they lock you in for 1 - 2 years, and you get no price increases during that term. Without phone you may be subject to whatever data, TV price increases come along.

I believe you can do one or two year agreements on TV and/or internet without doing any kind of combo package.

The battery backup is only for the phone when the power goes out.

You can have two or all three without being in a combo package. You have to explicitly enroll in a bundle to get the discounts.
