I'm currently getting along great with analog and clear QAM tuners. If I'm forced to use a converter, it is going to be a real PITA. At this point, I'll cancel my Comcast service and install Satellite. I'll probably also ditch HSI and switch to FiOS. |

Y0tsuya join:2000-05-13 Union City, CA | reply to jjoshua I recently decided to switch to digital to bypass of signal quality issues in my RF distribution network. Comcast in my town scrambles all but a few of their QAM channels. That's not acceptable since it will mean I need over 10 STBs in the house for all my TVs and HTPCs. So I cancelled their service. |

 | What did you get to replace it? 10 boxes from the Satellite companies? |

Y0tsuya join:2000-05-13 Union City, CA | I just use an antenna to receive OTA ATSC. Only clear QAM I get from Comcast are local channels anyway. Sure I'll miss Iron Chef, but it's not worth it. |

If Comcast goes all digital and encrypts most if not all the basic channels (i.e., doesn't make them available in unencrypted QAM forcing me to rent a box for each TV), then I will do what I did before I had Comcast. Run the outdoor antenna back up and go back to OTA (this time in HD) through converter boxes for my TV's that are analog only now, and only have one STB on my one TV. Depending on how it's handled, and the additional fees I may cancel Comcast all together and go back to OTA. |

Right now, with the discounts that I receive, cable is cheaper than fios and, like I said, I've got a good setup going between analog and clear QAM. |
