Multimode can only go so far, *maybe* a couple miles.
Single mode can go MUCH farther. At my work, we have single mode fiber spanning over 50 miles.
edit: one site says, for 100mbit link, distance is 2km, 1000mbit (1gig) is 500-600 meters. |
