| kicked off the net with bittorrent?
I've been having this problem lately and was wondering if anyone had a similar problem.
Every time I open uTorrent and my torrents try to connect, I always get kicked off the internet. My browser freezes, MSN disconnects, mmorpgs disconnect (I don't play WoW btw). Internet stays unavailable for several minutes after I close uTorrent, otherwise it won't come back on.
So yeah, I just wanted to see what you people have to say before I call tech support. |

@chevrontexaco.com | maybe its the flood of sudden connections that utorrent makes that overwhelms your modem or router? are you using a router? try connecting directly to the modem. |

EDIT, also SP3 for XP has been known to cause issues with a lot of routers. Try updating your router firmware to fix that |

| reply to yingjai If you have your upload speed set too high or amount of connections is too high, it can overload your connection bar-none.
Allot of routers (cheap ones most of all) will actually lockup or crash on too many active connections.
Another issue is the very low "Half Open Connections" limit inside Windows XP/Vista.
XP is set to 10 (should be 50)
I'd try lowering your max upload speed and raising your half open connections (while in safe mode) with a program to modify tcpip.sys.
Just my 2 cents |

| reply to yingjai I have come across the same sort of problem. When I have utorrent open it slows down browsing and MSN almost to a complete stop, even when there isn't much for traffic on the torrent client.
I'll try raising the half open connections as well and see how it goes. |

| reply to yingjai I'm thinking router. I had an old D-link that would reboot any time I tried running torrents. couldn't handle the strain so it overheated. I'd start with a new router, and the baseline, honestly, would be along the lines of a Linksys WRT54G. And don't use wireless. |

| reply to yingjai What's wrong with wireless? I use wireless for laptops. What's the point of a laptop if you are wired down?
And I have 2 D-Link routers in the house right now. They are at 2 ends of the house blanketing it with wireless coverage. The newer, better, WBR-2310 acts as the main router connecting the modem, while the slightly older WBR-1310 acts as a hub connecting other computers to the main router. They're both connected through the in-wall lan and only my desktop is connected thru lan cable (the computer trying to use bittorrent).
We tried the Linksys WRT54G before. It wouldn't work and we had to return it. |

| upnp did not work for me either, check this site out »www.utorrent.com/setup_guide.php and »www.portforward.com/english/appl···ndex.htm it will show you how to set up port forwarding. (basically all torrents will be forwarded directly to your computer, instead of the router getting it, trying to find out where it goes (and in the process locking it up), and causing problems.
Give it a try, it should work |

| reply to yingjai I do port forward. It's impossible not to port forward if you have more than 1 computer connected.
Also, I think I fixed the problem by removing all the old torrents that nobody was seeding anymore and replaced one of the torrents that was current and which I believed was causing problems. It did work and I can use bt now without disconnecting. |

@shawcable.net | reply to yingjai I had the same problem. switched to bitcomet and problems went away. I think the latest beta version of utorrent might be better, but you'll have to try it. |

| reply to yingjai I suffer the same problem. ever had it until last night. I have a static IP address set up and do port forward. Tried updating the firmware on my DI 624....didn't work. Only temporary solution is to power down the router, power back up again, then I am good to go as long as I don't try P2P with utorrent! Think I'm going to try a couple of things suggested here, and then try a new router. |
