| Quebec and Maritimes IN FAVOUR of new Copyright Bill
»www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/3069/125/
said by Michael Geist : By province the numbers are even more revealing: 45 percent against in BC (25 percent in favour), 39 percent against in Alberta (36 percent in favour), 51 percent against in Saskatchewan and Manitoba (23 percent in favour), and 43 percent against in Ontario (23 in favour). The only provinces that favour are Quebec (43 - 31 in favour) and Atlantic Canada (50 - 30 in favour).
Conlusion in the comments is clear: Quebec and Maritimes are in favour of the Bill C-61 because they are not informed about its dangers. After all, a search on French (Canada) section of Google News only pulled articles describing the bill as "fait accompli" or outright praising the bill.
This has to change. So, Quebec and Maritimes: write letters to your local press, challenge them to get it covered. |

Jim Prentice's Letters to the Editor
said by Michael Geist : Industry Minister Jim Prentice is apparently planning to counter as many negative articles and editorials as he can find. After yesterday's Toronto Star letter (which generated the predictable critical response from Star readers), Prentice writes to counter the Sudbury Star's negative editorial. Of course, it is worth noting that Prentice has missed a few

| reply to Anon Name Québec's artists is very very very very much for separation (with a few exceptions).
With the ADQ on its way out (its succes was due to protest votes), the liberals don't want to cause the ADQ votes to all go to the PQ.
Being against the DMCA would be tantamount to being against Québec artists and that would probably be seen as a vote loser for the liberals and a vote gainer for the PQ.
It all has to do with how the french press in québec portray that bill. If they say it helps protect french québec artsts, then the québec government has to be seen supporting it. |

| reply to Anon Name Let's put things in perspective here:
«From June 16 to June 17, 2008 Angus Reid Strategies conducted an online survey among a randomly selected, representative sample of 1,001 adult Canadians. The margin of error for the total sample is +/- 3.1 %, 19 times out of 20. The results have been statistically weighted according to the most current education, age, gender and region Census data to ensure a sample representative of the entire adult population of Canada. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding.»

I doubt many French speaking artists from Quebec belong to ACTRA:
«ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is a national organization of more than 21,000 professional performers working in the English-language recorded media.»
Yet, this is their stance:»www.actra.ca/actra/control/press···id=10677
Just the facts Ma'am, just the facts.

Kind of sad actually... |

Only morons take the word of the press as granted, and there are morons in all provinces. I'm making sure my entourage as well as any friends I meet know about this bill.
I think people just don't care and don't realize. If a referendum would happen and people were correctly informed, I'm certain numbers would change. |

1 edit | reply to Anon Name ask your selves this: did angus reid call you?
WHO did they actualy call. Seems a lot of the very people that aren't upset. There is not one person i have humanly talked to both young an old that was like I LOVE THE NEW BILL.
Also, down east , they can hardly afford tea let alone internet, so do they care.
And the french , well good lets vote them out of canada now and be done with it. Just pay us back what you owe and put up 100% trade barriers around them. oh and montreal can stay nice place. |

1 edit | I would like to ask members of this forums to refrain from any anti french-canadians comments. It doesn't help anyone and creates resentment. I don't go around dissing english-speaking people for the fun of it. In fact I don't have anything against my English-speaking countrymen. I'm sure you don't personally have any. In fact I'm sure any dislike you might have toward french-canadians must come from revenue-generating-resentment-manufacturing-ignorance-peddling media conglomerates. Or maybe you're just dumb. |
