1 edit | [northeast] FYI About Power Outage and ONT
I was recently away on vacation and checking my answering machine daily from my cell. One day the home phone would just ring and ring, the machine would never answer. Turns out there was a power outage due to a thunderstorm. The power was off for around 12 hours. I was unable to get thru to the machine for 4-5 days. Upon returning home, the phone line was dead as was my internet connection. I opened the ONT and saw a red LED lit (sorry, don't remember the name). I managed to 'fix' the situation by pulling the power plug and removing the backup battery from the power supply for about a minute. This was after pulling the power/battery for a shorter time with no fix. After the extended power off, the ONT, phone and internet came back to life.
I understand that this stuff happens and am not necessarily blaming Verizon. I'm posting this as an FYI to anyone who might experience the same thing. I was about 5 minutes away from wasting time with a service call. |

I have mine setup so that if I'm on the phone or the system is out messagees can still be left for me. As long as i have the number to access the voicemail system, it's works as a good backup. And since it comes with the phone service I might as well use it. |

| I have POTS thru the fiber, not the bundled version that comes with the 'double play'. I don't make a lot of calls and such have an old 'pay as you go' plan which I'm not sure is still available. I pay less per month than their teaser rate ($29.95 ?) |

They charge me $70 for TV and phone service now. No teaser rate. Which puts the phone service at $25 if you figure the TV goes for $45. |
