| Wireless Internet and Wireless Router problems.
I have some questions but first the relevant info: AMD Athalon 64 4000+ 2 Gig memory Windows XP Home SP 2 D-Ling WMB 2310 Router D-Ling DWL-AG530 PCI interface (correct term??)
1. Your WISP's name -GPNetworks (through Bell Canada) 2. Your WISP's claimed speeds you should receive -Up to 2mbps full duplex 3. The manufacture of the equipment the WISP has provided you with -Tranzo TR-SUR-001 Modem/not too sure about the antenna 4. How far you are from the WISP's Access Point -think about 2 Miles 5. The frequency your equipment uses -900Mhz I think 6. The dBi of the antenna your equipment uses - Not sure 7. Do the issues happen at all times of the day, or only at peak usage hours? - Appears frequently
Router settings are basic factory and security is not enabled. (Dont need it as Im about 1,300 feet from the nearest road and surrounded by trees except for the cut line that allows me to receive a wireless signal from the other side of the river valley).
Signal strength from the router is in the 60 70% range with tx rate of 54 Mbps.
ISP is basically Bell Canada and the primary provider is using the 900 mhz band that does pass through a few spread out leaves.
My problem, from using PingPlotter is I sometimes see huge packet losses ranging from 20 100% BUT between the router and points in Canada everything is OK. This is happening once I get into the US.
Another thing that happened was that the IP address 10.20.29.1 dropped out and was giving me 100% packet loss but it appears to be between my router and the suppliers IP.
Any idea what this is??
I guess the question is : is there anything I can do at my end to reduce packet loss and what or where is 10.20.29.1 that occasionally gives me problems? |

These are the screen shots.
Some points.. why would my router max out at 244 ms? What is that IP 10.20.29.1 between my router and the ISP?? (note one screen shot shows 100% PL.
Any ideas?? |

| First of all, a Ping Plotter trace comprising only a few minutes is next to useless. You really need to pick a server and do a trace for 24 - 48 hours. Pick one like www.dslreports.com rather than a game server.
Is your router the device at 192.168.0.1?
IP addresses beginning with 10 are reserved for private LAN addresses so that would be an IP address within your ISP's network. Could be your radio or an AP but it is some other node on your ISP's network. |

| Ahhh--OK - I'll run on as you suggested and then post it.
Yes - the 192.168.0.1 is the router and its a D-Link WBR 2310 (firmware updated to their latest release) not a WMB 2310 as I initially reported.
The desk top is connected through a DWL-AG530 PCI card though.
Don't have a problem replacing these two pieces if they are part of the problem.
Back in a day or two with a ping plot. |

| Another question..how long should I make the trace interval??
I was using 1 sec to try an emulate real time but over a long term period as all you get are max/min and average that seems like an excessive number of pings.
I can go anywhere from 1 second to 60 minutes.
What would you suggest??
