MLPPP question and Montreal ISP's

What Montreal ISP is offering this service?
Also, is it easy to set up using the tomato firmware?
Thanks again!

Montreal ISP seems to wholesale TSI's service hence, MLPPP support should definitely be available.

There are a few things to consider:
1. You can do MLPPP on XP
2. You can do MLPPP on a Linux machine (probably complicated if you're not familiar)
3. You can do MLPPP using a WRT54G (V1-4) or WRT54GL

For the last option you simply load the modified Tomato firmware as you would load the regular Tomato firmware

I have been using the V1 beta2 with no issues so far.
I found that resetting defaults and clearing NVRam after installing the new firmware helps especially if your router is already currently running regular Tomato.

This should have most of the links you'll need »Re: So, a router is necesarry to run the Tomato setup?

Thank you, however what is "TSI"?
Thanks

@videotron.ca

I think Teksavvy and Acanac support MLPPP.

I don't know if Ebox does, might be worth asking?

Are you going to buy two DSL lines and bond them? If so, Ebox's unlimited 7-meg cable might interest you for about (or less) the same price than getting two DSL lines to bond with MLPPP.

If you are a 100-gig or less user, videotron's 10-meg cable might also interest you.

I know we did it for a couple user but since i am not the technical expert for the distribution equipments i will have to get back on this. So far i would say we support MLPPP but it's a point to be determined.

Thanks for the replys.. I only want to use MLPPP for the throttle work around :P

@videotron.ca

then that would be:
1.Teksavvy (TSI): »TekSavvy
2.velcom: »Velcom
3.Acanac: »Acanac Inc.
4.Ebox (to be determined?): »ELECTRONICBOX

TekSavvy has the most active group of geeks going in regards to MLPPP, both OS wise and Router wise. So in my unbiased opinion thats where you want to be.

Acanac i *think* supports mlppp, they also have some sort of SSH box set up for their users to use. Don't hear much on the mlppp front in regards to them.

Also, I forgot to add... If its speed and leech your looking for, I have a personal preference for cable.
F DSL and all the crap that comes with it.

If you don't mind paying about 65$/month for unlimited 7-meg Ebox cable, thats the choice i would make (personally).

the "upto" 5 meg DSL providers above are around 30-40$.

So if it was me, my first choice would be Ebox's unlimited 7-meg cable, which is available in Montreal.

My second choice would be TekSavvy due to cost and the very wide range of support within its forum community.

Those would be *my* two choices if I was doing more than 100-gigs a month.

Hi diskace, I'd be interested in MLPPP, so if you have some time, could you please look into it and confirm availability.

Just to clarify for myself:

ElectronicBox is a cable internet provider, correct?

So if you are in an area they serve, being that that they use Videotron as the cable provider, their service is unthrottled as it is (at least I would assume so)?

Now, I am not at all well-versed in this, but over cable you can have some sort of line bonding, but not MLPPP perse?

Or am I totally off?

Ebox provides cable somewhere in Quebec as well as DSL wherever Bell provides DSL. You can't use and don't need MLPPP over cable (ie not throttled)...

MLPPP works for me over DSL to bypass the throttling.

How can I tell if it's working?

I tried putting that checkbox with IGS and Colba.net (5Mbps) and my torrents are still stuck at 50kbps.

I want to know how to test this to determine if it works before I flash my router.

Thanks.

According to our network engineer, mlppp is enabled and we do not block it.

The only problem that we currently have with mlppp is that we have a round robin system for redundancy so that ppp session are routed through different gateways. Currently we have 4 gateways facing customers. Your mlppp session need to be up on the same gateway in order to enjoy mlppp.

Even for a single line setup to simply bypass the throttling?

Hey diskace,

I tried connecting through MLPPP this evening via a tomato modified WRT54GS with single link MLPPP. The connection seems to default to regular pppoe however and the line is still throttled. Any idea on what might be going wrong?

Thanks in advance!

The current gateway of the regular pppoe session is 64.235.192.30 but I regulary obtained .26 and .29 as well during my tests. I have no idea what the gateway of the MLPPP session would have been as I never managed to establish one. To be fair to everyone, I have to admit that I haven't really read into the subject of single link MLPPP, I just followed the instructions from the MLPPP discussion from the teksavvy forum. Are there 2 sessions even with single link MLPPP? I tried connecting a number of times, none of them succeeded...

you need to have same gateways on both session. If not, the routing won't work across 2 gateways.
