If no merger, they BOTH fail.
Then who gets screwed? |

| If both companies declared bankruptcy tomorrow, it's not like the sats would shut down, and your radio would go dark.
Someone would step in and buy the whole operation for a song, and probably turn a quick profit.
The stockholders would be the big losers, not the subscribers.
I've been watching both companies for several years now, and anyone who sunk money into either one of these money losers in the past 4 years was either smoking crack, or expects the Easter bunny to show up this year.
Buying stock in either company was a purely speculative move. Sometimes these moves yield massive returns, and sometimes they yield massive losses.
Even after the merger is approved, look for stock in the combined company to wallow in the shitter.... -- Petty people are disproportionably corrupted by petty power

If they want to merge let them, who cares if they end up screwing the consumers. It's a luxury item, if they screw the consumers badly enough they will gladly take their business elsewhere or do without. |

No, whether or not the item is a luxury or necessary to live, or if it will be a monopoly that people are FORCED to use are HUGE factors in mergers. Well they SHOULD be, you'd be hard pressed to know that by looking at all the Oil Company and Media mergers that go through without any fanfare or controversy. The only reason THIS merger got so much attention was because the NAB (whose members are competitors) paid their lobbyists to petition the government and make fake consumer groups to do the same. |
