| New instal of FTTH In Ohio
Greetings all,
We just recently had Armstrong Cable buy out the old system in our town. Now I am scheduled to have the fiber run to my house the first week of july. This will be a huge leap for my community. This is the first time anything other than Sat or Dial-up has been available.
I will let you all know how the install goes. I can hardly wait. So long Dish...so long Sprint Cellular high speed (though I have enjoyed it) Hellllllo to the 21st century.

| That's awesome dude! You had Rapid cable right? Armstrong bought the whole thing, I was on the Coitsville system. Armstrong hasn't moved much here yet though, they put up all the fiber optics and started hanging spools of wire for the drops, but we haven't had any sales people or flyers yet. It is indeed fiber to the home too. What goes around comes around, we're now going to have better cable then people in Boardman, Poland, Campbell, Struthers, Canfield, etc. Those are hybrid systems that have fiber optics but utilize the old coax for the last mile and into the home, we're going to have fiber optics the whole 9 yards!
P.S. Let me know how the install goes and how the service is, it'll give me an idea of what to expect.

| The installer came today. The cable is underground so until they bury it I have to be careful mowing. The installer was a real nice guy and the whole process took maybe 2 hrs. I'm on my new Zoom as we speak,speed test from my laptop was 1856 d/ 466 u with a 60ms ping. The pvr is pretty nice, I have not recorded anything yet. The HD is amazing...I got the whole package, phone, zoom, tv with hd (no prem) 79 bucks for a year. Feel free to im me if you want more info.

1.8down by 466 upload? thats a laugh for fiber! especially at 60ms pings!
waaaayyyy higher than what my HFC from the cable company.
Just because you have fiber doesnt always mean they'll use it. |

North Jackson, OH | That was the only test that I had run as I was typing the message, it must have been the test server because I now get 5megs+ down. They also ofer a 10meg down plan, but I had no need for that.

| I'm sure they could probably pump it up, but they don't need to. There is no DSL available to most people where I live, the other cable Co (Time Warner) wanted nothing to do with our section (we are fairly rural) I am happy to have the 5megs. We now have a state of the art system as opposed to the copper that the surrounding 30 mile radius has.

| HFC is a state of the art system its not fully copper like DSL. Just because you have FTTH doesn't make everything else not "state-of-the-art" DOCSIS SOTA and not going anywhere soon. I wouldn't be surprised if DSL didnt come available to you or something else.
ATT did that to me where i used to live. DSL wasn't available to rural and lived in a town of 25,000. TWC came in and dropped RR DSL was available the next day.
The equipment is there it's just not turned on and they won't do it until it needs to be. |

One thing you guys are overlooking because you simply don't know the area. I live in a similar township just across the county from Jim. No one has had broadband in these townships except the very few who qualify for marginal DSL. A 5mbps connection is "state of the art" to us.
Secondly, this new set-up will have capability to handle whatever comes in the future. This is actually connected to the Armstrong Boardman, OH system which is still a hybrid (FTTN and coax last mile). So while the new wiring has the capability to handle whatever, the "entire" system is not fiber optic. But what we have is a hell of a lot better than what people in the current system have since the fiber feeds directly from the head-end. They won't be able to give us anything more in terms of capacity until they can throughought the whole system. But as far as performance and reliability, we're in far better shape.

| realiabilty is only as good as the provider and if anyone digs and cuts the line.
a system being FTTN doesnt have any weaker realiabilty points than FTTH. performance would be how ever the company manages the network.
I could get the same thing on cable that you could get on FTTH and still pay less. |

In fact, our deals are actually more intisive to get us to sign up, then it goes up to the same pricing after 1 year or whatever. Fiber optic is cheaper than you think. Trust me I have inside sources with this company, that;s why they're laying it here in a semi rural area without question.

| everyone on here has inside sources. so don't think you're special by any means. Hell I get inside information at Lowe's and The Home Depot. I worked for both and still get told stuff that customers shouldn't know. How do you think the media found out about the stores closing? Employees talk to customers.
But as far as fiber being cheaper i didnt say that. i said i can get the same thing that you are and pay less and its on cable. I most likely have the same uptime as you and the same performance.
But you're deals are good for one year. Mine are good for life. Digital phone $13 per month (with taxes) can your cable company beat that? I doubt it. ATT can't touch it. VZ can't touch it. |

This is a fiber optic board and Armstrong did implement FTTH to both Jim's township and mine, whether you think it's good enough is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, 2 townships in a broadband black hole are finally catching a break and it's FTTH.

Connection is useless if a thunderstorm is within 20 miles & also drops for no good reason at anytime it pleases. Good for a radio station to function at those times? No. You're literally talking 7 house holds to qualify for DSL. It is a broadband blackhole, again, you don't live here to see it.
The other 98% of the township has never had anything more than dial-up. I see a few poor souls with a hughesnet dish. FTTP from Armstrong cable is about as good as you can get in this area anyway, let alone this township finally getting broadband.
