| The 3Com switch basically connects to everything in the rack, as well as the patch panel that feeds all the ethernet ports in the house (on the other side of the garage). I just use the black unmarked server for tinkering.
The Nokia IP330 I picked up on Monday from Weirdstuff warehouse in Sunnyvale. Amazing the things you can find there. When I powered it on for the first time, it didn't seem to do anything, so I opened it up, and what appears to be the modem module was only half in its socket. NO clue why/how that happened, but once I reseated it in its socket, everything functioned perfectly. I actually replaced the hard drive in it with the one from my previous m0n0wall router, and only had one problem: it turns out that the MAC addresses are stored in software, not hardware, so I had to set up m0n0wall to spoof the real MAC addresses of the three ethernet ports. I saved the original Nokia hard drive just in case I can find a use for the "real" software.
I also picked up the Netra from craigslist that same day. It took some getting used to and lots of trial and error, but I was able to replace Solaris with Ubuntu linux. I'm far less comfortable with Solaris than with Linux, unfortunately, otherwise I'd have used Solaris 10. The Netra now is being used to run my website. -- »www.qirfa.com/ انا احب لبنان |
