 | How do I get other services in Christiansburg? I was a JetBroadband customer for over 2 years until I got tired of their crap, they jacked my prices 40.00 while under a one year service agreement and then slammed my credit for late charges that I didn't have (due to their own billing errors) and now I have requested that they disconnect their service. Ok, so we want to get Comcast cable. The day they are supposed to come hook it up, I get a nasty phone call at work from JB telling me that they have detected someone else attempting to access their cable lines at my address and that because they own them, no one else may use them. Basically, whenever we selected their service, they didn't tell us that the lines would be permanently conditioned for their exclusive use making it impossible for us to get any other services at our address. We were unable to get Comcast services. I then tried Direct TV and was able to get that but whenever it came time for my internet access to be bundled with it, we were not able to get that either. There was no reason given for this problem but I strongly suspect that it may have something to do with the JB people and the conditioning of their lines.
My question here is this: What must I do in order to make them take their crap off my lines and leave them as they found them without having to pay an arm and a leg to do it. Furthermore, who mandates the service providers that a given area has access to? I think there should be more competition in the area and less taking advantage of the fact that the larger portion of the population are students and will pay top dollar for internet services because they have to have it off campus! |
 | There are a couple of questions I see here that need to be answered.
One - the conditioning of lines. There is no such thing. A coaxial cable can be used by the cable company as well as a satellite dish provider as long as it is RG6 (newer, bigger) which has been in use for over 10yrs. The legal demarcation point for cable is 12 inches from the entry point on a house. From that point inward is considered the customers property, and from that point outward to the cable system is considered property of the cable company. As for the Direct TV folks not being able to give you internet service, that had nothing to do with the cable company.
Two - All you have to do is place a disconnect order to have the cable company remove their services. There is no charge to do this. As far as service providers in your area, this is controlled by the local franchise authorities which are the towns and counties (Radford or Montgomery county). The local town council or county commission grants cable franchises. These franchises are not exclusive and other providers may apply for one, however, this is rarely done as it is not nearly as profitable for either of two companies in the same franchise area.
Hope this helps. |
