| reply to EPS said by EPS :There'd be no reason to convert from CDMA to GSM- it'd be a downgrade in voice quality anyway. LTE is supposed to have voice over VoIP-based systems, which are much cheaper than current cellular voice technologies. Its not like that LTE is the family of GSM. Called 3gpp. »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3gpp Plus both cdma and GSM are old school. What has to happen is Alltel moved to a GSM core first then to LTE. -- Say no to fear. 1 edit | reply to hottboiinnc Yep, that is why I am concerned about the future of U Prepaid.
VZW will be happy to see me go too. This line has been used as a backup to my Sprint line, and of the initial $20 refill back in mid-2006 there is still about $4 left.
I'm also ~50 miles away from the closest Alltel area and have been pretty much perma-roaming on Sprint or VZW. I'm sure in the end they've lost money on me. -- A little off center & loving it! »www.euphoricarythmia.com/ |

| reply to dot_null The only thing VZW is required by law to keep is anything where their is a contract in place. Since UPrePaid is a prepaid service and has no actual contract VZW can and most likely get rid of the service.
As far as postpaid customers of Alltel their service will go unchanged until they either renew their contract with VZW under a "new plan" or change providers. |

| reply to hottboiinnc said by hottboiinnc :MyCircle will still be around for those customers that have it now and as long as they don't renew their contract after the merger. After that they won't have it of course. uPrepaid will go away almost after everyone in DC signs off on the deal. Do you know how they will handle grandfathered U Prepaid accounts? I have the old grandfathered plan where you only have to make a call every 30 days with no minimum top-up amounts. Would hate to see that go away, but there's always PagePlus if it does, I guess... -- A little off center & loving it! »www.euphoricarythmia.com/ |

| reply to Joe12345678 No MyCircle and no U Prepaid (which is much better than Verizon Prepaid). And question is what will happen to the roamer only GSM system Alltel operates. When Alltel and Verizon, or Alltel and US Cellular are the 800s, your better hope one of them (Alltel) has GSM service if you have a GSM phone. |
