5 friends and I went up to Lassen for the weekend and camped at Manzanita Lake.

I hadn't been in years, I'd forgotten what a beautiful park it is. We did some hiking (I suppose about 8 miles) and saw some great scenery.

It's a bit of a drive up there, but it's really not too terrible once you get to Redding (only an hour east of Redding).

Not quite enough time, but we were able to make a 2 night trip out of it.

Very nice. I've been aching to head to Yosemite.

Some beautful pics Davis, thanks! Lassen truly is a magnificent place, I've been there a few times, and it reminds me in many ways of Yellowstone and nearby Island Park, ID, the volcanic soil, lodgepole pine, sagebrush, thermal features, clear, mountain streams, it's kinda like a mini Yellowstone. Yellowstone and Island Park will always be my faves though

Did they say how much snow they got this season? When we were up there last season they had only gotten about 40% of normal, this winter looks like it was better to them though, at least it was for us.

Oh, is the new Visitor's Center open yet? They were just starting on it when we went up last.

I don't know if the new center is open yet, to be honest. It looks like the peak still has a good amount of snow on it, so I'm thinking they likely did better than last year.

Believe it or not, all of the photos you see were taken with my iPhone (only 2MP). I kept forgetting to bring my regular camera with me on the trails, so the only pictures I have on the regular camera are of friends at the campsite.

The panos really aren't too hard to make with the iPhone, either.

RR, we didn't get a chance to go to Bumpass Hell, but it is a really neat area.

That's good to hear, we have been over to Redding and the valley a few times this year, and Mt.Lassen looked like it had a good amount of snow, and Mt.Shasta did too. Our local mountains did pretty good, they're at 120% of normal.

Those pics came out pretty good, the iPhone seems to have a good camera in it, unlike a lot of camera phones. Thanks again for sharing, Lassen Volcanic National Park is a gem and one of the least visited in the National Park System, it is as Huel Howser would say "California's Gold" Do you ever watch that show? It's on PBS, and he does an awesome job of showing the sheer variety and beauty that we have been blessed with in California. »www.calgold.com/

Never seen that show, but I've been told repeatedly by my dad that Lassen is one of the most underutilized parks in the state.

Which is something you'd want so it won't lose its beauty.
