Router Firmware Upgrade

I have a Netgear WGR614v6 wireless router which on occassions locks up and then I have to re-apply power to get it going again. Can I do a fireware upgrade to WGR614v9 and see if this fixes the problem.

I was confused with the note on the netgear firmware download site stating: The firmware WGR614v9 for this version is NOT compatable with earlier versions (It will not work on WGR614v8, v7, v6, etc.)

Does this mean I can or can't do a firmware upgrade from v6 to v9?

The version is for the HARDWARE. Though the model number is the same (WGR614), the internal hardware is different, thus the different versions and the resulting different firmware. The firmware for one version WILL NOT WORK on the hardware of another version.

You can only apply firmware made for your version 6 hardware.
