| RR drops Newsgroup Service so I drop RR
The newsgroups was one of the only things keeping me on Time Warner.
My exgirlfriend's brother's uncle's sister's father works for TW and they said that later this year they'll also be discontinuing e-mail accounts, and bricking everyone's modem.
Well, we could all get together and file a class-action suit to either get them to bring back the usenet groups as part of their Internet service, or charge us less for incomplete Internet service, yet advertising Internet service, and not advertising limited Internet service. When I hear an advertisement for Internet service, I presume that it is the WHOLE Internet, and not just the part that is profitable to the ISP. I am sure that others will agree with me on this.
Usenet is the main way that we get Linux support, as well as support on a myriad of technical issues. Without it, it is not the Internet. |

| Seriously, I used usenet for the binaries groups myself (ebooks) and so I miss it.
However, Linux support is something you don't need usenet access through the ISP for. Ever heard of Google Groups? Yes, they have newsgroups there. Plus a plethora of free servers offer access to discussion-only newsgroups.
The only thing you can get through ISP-sponsored newsgroups that you can't get from free sources are binaries. -- If it ain't broke..... You didn't overclock it enough. |
