Qwest Actiontec M1000

Hey, I've had nothing but problems with Qwest lately and I'm starting to get a little annoyed. I'm having all kinds of trouble staying connected to the internet (When I get home I'm gonna troubleshoot with the modem's stats and logs). Anyways I have my modem in transparent bridge mode and I wanted to see if it was possible to access the modem's configuration page with it in transparent bridge mode as the only way I can access the modem is to do a hard reset back to factory and then access it. I am using a D-Link router so i have to run the thing in bridge mode but I would like to still access my modem. And yes the modem has a different IP then the router.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Is you DSL light Flashing when you loose connection

Yeah. The DSL light will flash for a few seconds to anywhere close to a minute and then it will stabilize and the connection will come back. Since I can't access my modem I can't check the logs to see what it's saying so I think I am going to just reset the modem back and directly connect to it and see what it says after a day. Now sometimes the "disconnects" will last a tiny amount of time, which I don't think even come up as disconnects on Qwest's end and other times it will sign me out of say AIM, today alone i see it signed me out of aim about 10 times today, and when I play live it will lag me out of a game but then the connection will come back just in time for me to return to lobby. Man I miss my cable.. lol.. Any ideas.. I think you were having a similar problem before?

what you need to do is check all your phone lines and filters then if you can't find a problem call Qwest because the problem is not in your house. and they can check your line.

Thanks for the quick replies ive definitely been around my fair share of networks and I know what I'm doing we don't have any phones in the house so no need for any filters and I know its a problem on their end but you know tech support they have no clue what's going on so I've got my modem directly connected and I'm going to check errors and logs and such and tell them exactly what they need to do if I'm not sure I'll probably post my stats up here and see what everybody thinks

I just find if it's not in your house than the tech that comes to your house don't care about modem stats especially for intermittent problems just trying to save you the time.

oh yeah i know that.. I'm just trying to get some stats so when I call tech support I can tell them what's happening so they don't keep jerking me around and maybe fix something on their end or yeah send out a tech and figure it out

best bet is to get them to do the things on this list, if thay can't find a problem

possibility's

home run
different modem
switch to a different port at the Dslam
line cut, to a different pair of phone wires to the DSLAM
also switch different line card, that one did it for me.
change pot spliter
that's the list of what can be done.

usually they don't do all that they just lower your speed

It worked fine all tonight.. I had no problems with just the modem attached so I put my router back on and played live all night with a fantastic connection.. maybe a hard reboot helped after they changed some protocols around... i'll definitely keep monitoring it.

Well that was a lie.. ok the internet went out at least 3 times last night connected to my router... so today, while I'm at work, I've got just the modem hooked up and we'll see if we get disconnects throughout the day.

Hey
Does anybody know if qwest has a modem that does not act as a router. I know they have a GT701, so would this work better when im trying to use a router.. like the WRT350N I just got. And by better I mean better than using the M1000 and having to run it in transparent bridge mode?

You DSL light does not have any thing to do with your LAN router or bridge the DSL light is the connection from your modem to DSLAM

No, all of the modems used by Qwest have router functionality built in. (Bridge to turn off.)

Yeah I kinda figured that but it just seems like when it's not running in RF1483 I don't have problems.. now I haven't tried that very much so I'll be able to confirm that better tonight

Alright here are my stats... it looks like i got disconnected a bunch today.

DSL Status
VPI:0
VCI:32
DSL Mode Setting: MMODE
DSL Negotiated Mode: T1.413
Connection Status: Showtime
Speed(down/up): 7168/704 Kbps
Number of Retrains: 24
Retrains Counter Elapsed Time: 10 Hours 11 Mins 19 Seconds
ATM QoS class: UBR
Near End CRC Errors (I/F): 179/0
Far End CRC Errors (I/F): 2457/0
Near End CRC(Within last 30 mins) (I/F): 0/0
Far End CRC(Within last 30 mins) (I/F): 0/0
Near End RS FEC (I/F): 57256/0
Far End RS FEC (I/F): 864937/0
Near End FEC(Within last 30 mins) (I/F): 0/0
Far End FEC(Within last 30 mins) (I/F): 0/0
Discarded Packets(Within last 30 mins): 0
SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream): 10/3
Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream): 17/5

They think I might not be able to support the 7 package (which you think they would check before you start paying for it) so they are trying to dispatch someone to check

Crzy

@qwest.net

Your SNR levels are not great 10/3 with the up being so low I would suspect either inside wire trouble (ie filtering issue or if you do not have dialtone if you have a alarm system that still maybey wired in on your phone lines and or bridgetap on your line not too much you can do about bridgetap since a Qwest Tech would have to take care of that but with your inside wiring if you havent done so yet you could go to your main box outside on your house and unplug the jack that holds all of your inside wiring and plug the modem in directly at that point and see if your stats improve. Because if you do not have a maintence plan (linebacker or databacker) you would be charged to have someone take a look at that.

We have a dialtone... no filters anywhere in the house because the only phone we have plugged in goes into the back of the modem, no alarm system ... and I'm not sure about the bridge tap. And I'll try the outside box if i can find a phone cord that is long enough. It's hard to troubleshoot something that is so random. Last night I got disconnected from xbox live a dozen times... but when I was streaming video later it didn't go out.. and then I played with the qwest box and it looks like I didn't get disconnected through the night. blah

try filtering the phone at the back of the modem. could be the built in filter of the modem is fried. just a thought anyway.

It's a good guess but I've tried the modem without the phone plugged in for two days and still got problems... now today it looks like I didn't get disconnected at all.. but it also looks like im down to about 5mbps down so I don't know
