| reply to dmcianfa Re: 6100 modem used on Verizon and switching to ATT Elite DSL
I was told this modem may not work for ATT by their tech support, but I believe there is a way to configure it. As far as I know, it is possible. I used a verizon version of the 2200 for several years, and am now using a verizon version of the 327w. I have not had a problem configuring them for AT&T.
I never got a username or password or disc or anything from ATT, do I need something like that? Yes, you will need that. Try this FAQ »Ameritech - SBC FAQ »How do I register a username and password for my new account? That FAQ is oriented toward a different modem. Here is the executive summary: Use the temporary account and password given in that FAQ - note that the account looks like a full email address. Enter that into your 6100. You should then see the internet light go green. Next, go to the link in that FAQ page, to request your own account and password. I suggest writing them down with your account records. Again, the account username will look like an email address (includes an "@"). Now reconfigure the 6100 for your permanent account and password. Finally, go to the link in that FAQ page where you can have the Yahoo mail account setup for you. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.14 |

Where do I enter this info to the 6100 on my computer?
"Now reconfigure the 6100 for your permanent account and password."
I don't know how to get to where I need to reconfigure and what to do once I get there!
Kind of a Noob here, sorry. |

| I don't have a 6100 to check.
On both the 2200 and the 327w, there are two ways to do it. One way is to click on "multiple VC" or "Multiple PVC" in the WAN settings or the configuration menu. The other way is to click on "Home", then follow the menus to edit the connection settings. Either should work.
A third method is to reset the modem. Push the recessed "reset" button for 5-10 seconds. Then when you next point your browser at the modem, it should prompt you for the information.
For all of this, you need to point your browser to 192.168.1.1 (for verizon versions of the 6100).
Oh, if you are using IE7, you might have problems accessing some of the menus. It should work fine with IE6 or with firefox.
Footnote: Since you are posting here, you are obviously able to get on line somehow (maybe dialup). I think you can access that link to register and get an account and password from your current connection. You might be asked for account information (account number from your billing information, for example). I'm not sure of the details of what they require. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.14 |
