Some GM cars have an "antenna module" which, on signal from the radio, connect or disconnect the RF signal from the antenna grid to the radio. It's not a signal amplifier, but only an electronic switch. This cuts off the RF signal for XM radio or Onstar operation.

I do know of one car that had serious reception problems that was fixed by replacement of this module.

No, they do not.

Dr. Olds has it correct; some vehicles have a pre-amp that is in the coax lead from the wire-grid antenna, and it also serves as a filter to remove associated noise that can be injected from the rear window defroster grid. The reception *does* improve with this device powered, but it is not because the antenna-grid itself requires power. The radio reception is purely passive.

"Most antennas" built into the glass do not need a source of power. They would only require power if they are equipped with an antenna amplifier, which MOST aren't.

Just like I'd explain removeable dash plates and wire connectors included from the factory in a brand new stripped down car without a clock or A/C or in-dash radio... dealer installed options!

If the car has a "Power Antenna" the wire is for activating the relay that raises and lowers the antenna when the radio is powered on/off. If the vehicle doesn't have a "Power Antenna" the wire would not be used.

That is not accurate. The majority of embedded in glass antenna are not powered and do not require power. If you were to add power it would likely screw up a few things.

There is a difference when an embedded antenna has an external antenna amplifier that is located near the wiring that exits the glass, but that is not the normal setup. The Factory harness at the Dash will have the properly colored dark blue wire when power is needed for a externally amplified glass antenna. A power amplifier for the antenna is not a powered mast antenna.

Are you sure about that? I've seen a very few aftermarket rod antenns with a built in pre-amp that required power. So last week I had the F90BT installed and still had static issues on FM, But another thing I noticed was the MSN Direct Signal almost NEVER has signal, some times it does for about a min and goes away, but I am thinking that is due to the fact there is static on my FM channels....

So my installer is trying to blame it on the grounding in my car, but I don't think that is the case because he used an external antenna and same thing happens.. and also when he put his hand by some wires behind the radio and messed around, he got signal for like 4-5 min.

But what I don't understand is 1 day it just started to get static on the line..

I am in really disparate need of some help.
