SNR deteriorates, discon main phone line fixes temporarily??

This symptom seems surpassingly strange to me. I'm hoping it means something to someone.

My SNR deteriorates of 8-24 hours. When it hits 0, I start to accumulate errors, and the connection drops out. I have a DSL splitter and a dedicated computer line.

When it drops out I can fix it by disconnecting the raw phone line at the NID or the splitter (no difference). 10 seconds will do it, although a few minutes works better. The connection reestablishes with a 10-15 SNR.

Then it slowly deteriorates. The pattern is absolutely reproducible, although the "good" time interval is somewhat variable.

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Yes call Qwest

@qwest.net

The Qwest guys have been out 4 times, have done all kinds of things (new NID, new drop, new modem, replaced my dsl splitter with theirs, etc.). Every time they leave it's a good signal (because they've disconnected the line), every time the degradation returns, and is fixed by disconnecting the line.

I've asked them if there wasn't a Qwest expert sitting at a desk somewhere who could look at this bizarre symptom and maybe know what it means. No response. So I thought I'd try here, since some pretty expert people have been known to post.

No response here too, I guess. I really hate going to Comcast, but I'm at the end of my rope. The fact that I can get a good signal by simply disconnecting the line (and I've done that in more than one place, it's not the particular connection) leads to me believe this COULD be fixed. But I don't know how to find a knowledgeable person to do it.

Did they put you on a different pair of wires going to the DSLAM?

couple other things they can do is switch your port or switch you to a different line card. That is what worked for me and i had to asked them nicely twice to do both jobs because the first job did not work.

Some electronics are stronger than others that's life, just like the same two sell phones working differently in range

The system is designed for 1.5 on 18,000 feet on a phone line it can be fixed, so long as all the copper phone lines going to the dslam aren't damaged or running into interference.

It took allot of effort for me to get them to do all that but i wanted real stable line real bad and i did not want them to lower my speed.

Make them investigate if it's equipment outside your property, it sounds like there's a bad splitter somewhere or something.
