[Serious] The Times online archive

»archive.timesonline.co.uk/tol/archive/#

Two hundred years of The Times scanned and OCR'ed to create a searchable archive. It's free at the moment but it looks to me as if it will only cost to read the OCR'd text.

The crosswords are included in the scanned pages

I just tried it, I thought I'll put me birth date in and see what was in the paper on that day.

Ooops there's no functionality for that!

How could they miss something as fundamental as that?

I seem to remember that you can buy from The Times back copies of the paper to give as birthday presents. Perhaps they don't want this to spoil that. I can't find the advert on the website though so perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me.

I do agree that it would be good to be able to read an entire edition.
