$39.98 until July 2. I think they charge $9.00 for shipping. They're based in Vancouver but I haven't found any reviews for them. |

Linksys better be releaseing another open source router if they are. |

That $40 deal looks tempting I updated the first post, since it wasn't really accurate any more. |

I ordered one anyway from compu2000. We'll see if I actually get it.. if not, I have paypal + visa protection |

| Brief history of the WRT series: Linksys introduced the WRT54G. It ran Linux. People complained that Linksys didn't release the source, so they did release the source to the firmware. People made custom firmwares. Eventually, at version 5, Linksys stopped using Linux and reduced RAM/flash. People complained, so Linksys made the v4 (last to support Linux) a permanent production model under the name WRT54GL (L for Linux).
Today, the WRT54GL is probably the most popular opensource router, and is the best supported hardware by pretty much any custom firmware due to said popularity. |

| reply to recneps I was at Staples Business Depot yesterday and they had a bunch of WRT54G's (V 8.2) in the clearance bin for $39.99.
Since I use DD-WRT as a custom firmware for the Wireless Repeater bridge for my network it works for my needs perfectly.
Looks like the WRT54G2 (no relation to the WRT54G V.2) is going to replace the WRT54G...it looks like their Wireless N routers (WRT300N) and the like...doesn't look at this point that it supports Linux...
If you're by your local Staples, take a peek in and you'll see the replacements.
But if you're looking for the Tomato firmware, the WRT54GL would be your only hope... |
