speedy99 : After fighting with things today, it appears my WAN1 interface was actually not routing packets properly, even though it was "working". The RV082 was actually smart enough to route (all) packets to WAN2. I've restored service to WAN1 (change back to DHCP instead of static route with wrong IP address) and all is well.

Thanks!

speedy99 : Router Info (Summary screen)

Serial Number : DEZ007600109
Firmware version : 1.3.5 (Jan 11 2007 00:22:46)
CPU : Intel IXP425-533
DRAM : 32M
Flash : 16M

System Management - Dual WAN Screen

I have enabled network service detection (default
gateway only, and only to log)
Trying to keep it simple, I have two static IPs
configured on my WAN interfaces, both on very
different upstream networks. (T-1 and Microwave
Radio link)

I am trying to route DNS and SSH traffic on WAN1
(the T1, to keep latency low), and route HTTP traffic
on WAN2 (the Microwave link, higher bandwidth)

I currently have set WAN1 to 1500/1500,
and WAN2 to 6000/6000 for Bandwidth.

Protocol binding is as described (I added port 22
for SSH) - only 3 entries.

There are no entries on the Bandwidth Management
screen (should there be? It didn't seem to
make a difference), and management type is priority.

The router seems to send ALL traffic through WAN2
(when lightly loaded), ignoring my protocol
binding. When traffic is high, some items will be
routed to WAN1, so I know the "load balance" part
is (kind of) working. I can also turn on verbose
logging (Log screen - general log -> allow policies)
and see almost all the connections hitting WAN2, few
hitting WAN1, but my protocol binding is ignored.

Anyone else gotten this to work successfully?
Is there a trick, like setting the bandwidth
to the same value for both links? Do you need
to reboot the router for changes to take
effect?

This router has been very robust given our
small office traffic load. I'm not using any
VPN features, no VLANs, and I actually turned
off SPI to make sure the router has plenty of
spare CPU (it runs nice and fast - even when
we were tyring to push 6MB through our
little T1 before the second link was up!)
I *have* enabled UPnP (for Skype connections
to work better). Using DHCP. Everything
else is defaults.

I know there is more recent firmware, but
the current version works really well for me,
and release notes don't mention fixes in
this area, so I'm reluctant to upgrade if
I can avoid it.

Anyone who has this working on a similar
setup, please let me know what you did!

Thanks!

JohnR (aka speedy99)
