1 edit | I'll repeat here what I posted in a similar thread this morn I see a LOT of 9/10 attitude in a post 9/11 world!
dodd is a political whore who has now found something to go on about to divert attention to his own problems:

This is also the guy who told former klansman, Sen. robert byrd of W.V., that the world would be a better place if byrd had become President. This AFTER The former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott said a similar thing to Sen. Strom Thurmond and lost his majority position in the senate. |

 | reply to Scoot_NJ Post 9/11 World? What's that suppose to mean? We all coward and hide, and pretend everyone is out to get us? We trade our freedoms blindly, so big brother can make us safer? What you stated is pure fictitious rhetoric. Post 9/11 world my ass. It's the same world, with problems that have existed since day one. I told Amigo Boy the same thing.
Jefferson, Franklin, (signers of the Declaration / Constitution) were terrorists and treasonous in their day. After all, they wanted to break away from love and country (England) to form their own land. You would not have a country called the U.S. Without their attacks on England and their separatist ideology. Yes, by all definitions these guys were terrorists. The same thing is happening in Chechnya and we label them as such. Strange huh? We celebrate "these founding fathers / terrorists" as heroes by parade current ones around differently.
How about security. Are you any Safer since the NSA wiretaps. Last I heard, our government has spied on people for the last 50 years. It happened during McCarthy's time. Did that stop 9/11. Seems if spying and big brother don't work, why use these methods. Obviously, it is not worth trading freedoms for methods proven ineffective.
I'm one to believe good old police work wins out in the end. You can't muscle and force people to do anything. You only create more enemies and alienate those who you need. We see this right now with the world's view towards us regarding Iraq. We have only created a staging ground for Syria's and Iran's holy war. Everyone else realizes this mistake, but US.
So post 9/11 my ass. |

 | reply to jc100 At least there's a few people who aren't a part of the post 9/11 BS. It's a whole new world for people who like to spoon-feed from politicians of ways to give up essential, needed-on-a-daily-basis liberties for protection against terrorists they already knew of, but ignored. "We knew of the terrorist attacks, did nothing, but let us tap your phone lines anyways". Have to be an idiot to be able to follow this garbage. -- Moore/Alexander 2008
Conservatives love religious-like aphorisms so here's one: "Freedom isn't free. It's Made in China." |

 | reply to jc100 [BQUOTE=jc100 We have only created a staging ground for Syria's and Iran's holy war. [/BQUOTEIran has been at war with us since 1975. You're just to naive to recognize that fact. You should stick to your penguin fetish and leave discussion to real adults! |

1 edit | Real Adults? That would exclude you engineer. One has to be intellectually mature to be considered as such. You haven't come near to that point. Let the big boy's talk, it's beddy by time for you.
Obviously, the only thing you added to my reply was to showcase your continual immaturity. Way to go!! |

What changed on 9/11? In reality: Not much. OK so we got our sense of invulnerability shaken. This isn't the first time this has happened; It happened when we were attacked in WW2; it happened again during the Cuba Missile crisis, and it happened on 9/11.... but what really changed America about that day?
The biggest problem I see with 9/11 is not that the attacks happened, it's what we've done about it since. Cracking down here, violating our principles, rolling back our civil liberties like we need to dramatically "Reform" our nation to more of an authoritarian state.
Well I disagree. 9/11 was a brutal attack, and it shocked and angered us and much of the world.... but we allowed the event to become the catalyst for all kinds of negative actions. We have only ourselves to blame, and in many ways, we're helping the terrorists destroy our image and what our nation stands for. -- "Regulatory capitalism is when companies invest in lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians, instead of plant, people, and customer service." - former FCC Chairman William Kennard (A real FCC Chairman, unlike the current Corporate Spokesperson in the job!) |

 | reply to jc100 Yet you refuse to recognize the point that Iran has been at war with us for years!
