| Comcast On Demand is Unwatchable
I'm wondering if anyone else agrees with the subject line of this message. Nearly every program I try to watch eventually disintegrates into an unwatchable mess of colored boxes dancing across the screen and broken audio. It's been this way virtually since Comcast took over for Adelphia.
Is this a common occurrence? |

If it keep happening, I would call Comcast and have someone come out and see it happen in real time. |

Have you called a tech or checked if its a signal issue? It may very well be a Comcast issue, but in this area and many many others on-demand works just fine with no issues whatsoever. Whatever issue you are experiencing is isolated to your area or possibly your equipment. |

| reply to mgbeecher Try this using your remote press cable then power (to turn off the cable box only) immediately press the red or grey ok/select button. The diagnostics page should pop up. First check the oob status look at the snr level hopefully it says fair to good. If you keep pushing down on the remote cursor it should show you how it has been fluxuating. You can also check the in band status but pay attention to the error counts mainly the uncorrectable. And finaly check the interactive status option. You should see the ip address of your set top as well as the state which should say running. Down below it it will be the socket port state in which 00,01 and maybe 02 depending on model with have numbers will be saying ready/receiving. If your box isnt saying any of this try checking the cables for tightness on the back of the box and at the wall. |

| reply to mgbeecher OnDemand works by setting aside a few frequencies to carry the video. As users call up stuff, they are assigned a frequency and a subchannel in that, and watch it. In your case, it may be one suffering from noise, or your signals are weak to begin with. Often, the OnDemand frequencies may be stuffed up near the high frequencies, where line losses can be high if your cabling is old.
Unfortunately, you can't really figure out what frequency is being used. It may vary each time you start something (one reason for the long pause when starting.) What MIGHT works, if you have a TV with a QAM tuner, is to start something, then use the TV to scan for channels, and then try to find the channel that matches what you are watching. |
