Wizzerd73 : I was moved up to a basic cable / 10 Meg internet package too. Not by choice, but because as I was told I was getting a "courtesy speed boost, and lower price" due to an issue I was having, and didn't notice the change in plan until I got the next bill. I loved the faster download speed, over the 3 Meg I had been getting.
Until charter decided it should have been a 5 Meg package instead of the 10 Meg I had originally been given. The 10 Meg lasted maybe 2 months, then speeds dropped noticeably. I look at my bill, what do I see? Basic cable, 5M internet. So much for 6 months of 10M. And to top it off, the price increased by 5 bucks at the time they changed the download speed.
I will admit that they seem to have forgotten to touch the upload speed, as I do have 1M upload capability, which is nice.
I had planned to ride out the promo, which was to end at the time the city had scheduled tentatively to have Fiber to Home 10M service available for half what charter charges for 10M service. Now that's tentatively rescheduled for about a year away, so oh well.
Anyways, look very carefully at your statement either online or in the mail, you too might just see that it says 5M instead of 10M now.

I asked if Charter would push out a new firmware, and they told me I just needed to buy (or lease) a new modem.
10 Meg Not Performing?

uninet : Hi everyone,
As part of my previously posted bundle renegotiation, I ended up with 10 meg internet. Nice. But, it doesn't seem to be up to speed. Using both DSL Report's speed test and Speedtest.net, I seem to average a mere 3.5 Mb/sec. Conversely, upload speeds are doing just fine, now up to 950 Kb/sec.

The only time I've seen the connection go over 5 Mb/sec was when the tech was here working on another issue and took a look at this one as well. He had me try a couple of Charter's own speed test pages, and the one in Olivette, MO, did get 8 Mb/sec. Otherwise, I've yet to see the connection be able to crack 5 Mb, much less 10.

I'm using a Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem.

Thanks!
