well i have this problem
internet modem/router --> my pc connected through USB and the internet is working on it
also i have switch connected to the internet modem.router through ether net wire and that switch connected to 5 pc's
the five pc's have the problem (local area limited or no connectivity)
i tried to change the IP addresses for all of them and i have local area connection is connected but i still dont have internet on them
any suggestion ?? |

| A modem is not the same as a router... are you sure you have a router? Typically a cable/dsl router will provide IP addresses for PC's connected to the network using DHCP, as well as something called NAT which allows several machines to share a single Internet connection.
So normally you will have Modem -> Router -> PC's or perhaps Modem -> Router -> Swtich ->PCs.
I suspect you are using just a switch connected to a cable modem, which won't work even if you do manually change IP addresses. -- Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then do it. |

| well i have a modem that have wire and wireless ports the wire ports are tow types one is USB and the tow other are ether net ports
i don't want to use the wireless
am now using the usb port so i can connect to the internet and i use the ethernet port to connect to a switch and the switch is connected to the other 5 pc's and they cannot connect to the internet and i cant ping them from my pc ! |
