hey, i have a question about my wireless internet provider. wataniya. kuwiatie wireless.
problem is, i am sitting far away from the tower that i use to connect to it. i bought a repeater to increase the signal, but the repeater doesn't seem to want to connect to it. any suggestions?
here's the down low on wataniya: its a 56kb connection wireless that i have to pay $28/month for a connection card. is it possible that because i have to get a card that it won't connect to it? |

As for the last question - I have no idea what you are asking. Are you trying to connect without their card? |

| reply to KCP sorry, no. i am trying to get my signal booster to connect so that i may increase the signal. i can connect to the internet, but it makes things like playing diablo II a pain in my ass because of the lag and the consistant DCs.
my question was meant to be: is it possible that because i have to have a card that my repeater won't connect to the isp?
thanks for making me look at my engrish (yes, i said engrish). |

| With wireless you will be disappointed with lag - it is inherent in wireless to have a good amount of lag. Not nearly as bad as satellite but still. If you are so far away from the tower and have issues connecting to it then why is a repeater in the same location going to have an easier time connecting?
I am betting the repeater won't connect because of the same problem your card has. The ISP may not allow repeaters to be used as well. I don't know enough about repeaters to know if it needs to be configured.
I Hey Mod'ed this thread to see if the wireless forum would be a better place or if DSLR has a WISP forum. |

| A good wireless service is very much like a wired connection as far a latency. I'm outside Austin, Tx and ping Dallas a in the 50's and Chicago in the low hundreds. Works for gaming all the time. Do have a 2% packet loss between myself and the first tower because the distance stretches the radio but other than that all is well. Good luck. |

| reply to KCP i am sorry if this wasn't too obvious in the OP, but i am in kuwait (not being sarcastic, really am sorry). the internet here isn't even satellite internet.
needless to say, i am nearing my witts end with this internet. i could go and sit next to the tower with NO power outlets and game for an hour at a time, but that is really counter-productive. and its in the desert. i would be doing too much damage to my hardware with the dust and sand. |

What you're trying to do is make a weak signal stronger, but your repeater needs something to pick up to make stronger.
If you have weak signal on your receiver, a repeater is not going to help. The repeater will have to be up much higher, or closer to the tower to be effective. |

| reply to KCP alright. thank you.
do you think that because i have to buy a passworded card every month to even connect to the internet that it would keep it from running the setup?
every time i try, it will start the setup and stop saying, "Unable to connect to survey site". |

| reply to KCP KCP, here's a little help. Buy something like this, a DLB2112 from Deliberant, info here: »www.deliberant.com/estore/web/pc···dio.aspx
Configure the device in transparent bridge mode and clone the MAC address of whatever wireless card you use when you sit under the tower and it connects.
Mount this device on top of your GP Medium or wherever you need access, just make sure it has a direct line of site to, and is pointed at the tower. If you really want to get fancy stick a wireless router behind it and it will give you good access in about a 300' area.
I see you are from Pearl River, grew up close by in Covington. Good luck! -- "Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it." |

Good luck! thank you for the suggestion. i am in kuwait right now. i don't have very long left. so by the time i order it, it gets shipped, goes through the inspections, and finally makes it to my hands...there wouldn't be much time to enjoy it. although, i WILL keep this in mind when i do set up wireless in my appartment. :P
and what a small world, huh? |

Could you get your hands on a Linksys WRTG54 wireless router there? If so you can re-flash it with DD-WRT and turn it into a pretty powerful little CPE like the deliberant. Ask one of your signal or Tac-Sat guys to hook up a 2.4Ghz antenna to it that is better than the original (they will have one) and point it at the tower. Whammo, you're in!
I used to be one of those guys at one time, was an 18E, spent 6 years active duty. By the way, thank you for your service it is very much appreciated.
I miss bass fishing out around lock # 1 on the river back home. Say hello to the Honey Island Swamp Monster when you get back.
If you are interested in this sort of stuff, give me a holler and who knows, maybe we can provide some service back in your neck of the woods. I am a wireless internet provider in TX and am always looking for new ventures. -- "Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it." |
