They are finally back working on the VRAD at 55th St and South Shore Drive. Hyde Park may soon have it - been waiting for a long time.

I heard from a guy who does DSL installs for AT&T that U-verse might be available citywide within the next 3-4 months. I'm not holding my breathe.

I recently moved to a new place in east Lincoln Park and had my DSL transferred. The technician doing my install said that they were working on VRAD construction right now throughout the city, but service would not be widely available for 6-8 months. |

wow 6-8 months! UGH!!
its funny about 6 weeks ago AT&T trucks were laying fiber underground all along western for a week straight. I witnessed as far north as western and diversey (but I believe I heard as far north as Irving Park) down all the way to Western and Chicago. It was almost clock work around 7-9pm on weekdays.
I live 3 blocks east of western but Uverse is still not available here. I hope they roll it out soon! |

| When moving over to UVerse, does one need to keep a landline to get DSL, particularly if they don't want to add voice service to their bill?
VRad appears to be right across the street from my apartment complex. 
I've still got the 6mb plan, but I've been less than enthused with Comcast as well...I suppose the only other thing is whether you need to sign up with a new contract or not...I will likely be moving from there next Spring. |

The VRAD on 55th and the lake seems to be finished. I asked one of the guys doing the install a few weeks ago what the time frame was. He said he thought "a few months."
I can wait, if that's really the case.

Over the past month U-Verse related work has ramped up quite a bit. I queried utility locate requests for "Project Lightspeed" and "V-Rad" over over the past 30 days to get the list below of addresses.
Important Notes:
-Work can be at any stage from initial conduit borings into the alley to final installation of protective bollards.
-Addresses are approximate and might be blocks away from actual V-Rad cabinet.
-No Guarantee that work will actually be performed although I have verified work is going on at many of locations on the south side.

I recently moved from my Beverly home to Bridgeport for cheaper rent and to be closer to work and school. During this move I had to lose my U-Verse service  [yes, that's two sad faces, i'm really bummed about it.] I'm with Comcast right now and the service is very unreliable. I'm really hoping that AT&T excels the U-Verse deployment in Chicago. Anyways, if anyone has info on U-Verse in Bridgeport, I would greatly appreciate it! |

Maybe you should go to Comcast's help forum and make it reliable. I've had Comcast for over 7 years and it's solid. And now they've doubled the speeds. My 12 meg download and 2 meg uploads are pretty solid sustained. |

Is there a way to check if a commercial address might already have the equipment for U-Verse or equipment comparable?
The condo loft building I live it has a bank on the first floor and someone said that the installer made noises like everything was there already.
Is something they can do in the help forum?
