To be honest I wouldn't mind if both of them came around at the same time. The more the merrier, right? Anyhow 35th Street / McKinley Park here and still awaiting for U-Verse, I heard a bit downer on 47th street there happens to be a vrad so that's pretty sweet. |

| This morning (while waiting for a comcast tech to show up ) I've been doing some more poking around about U-Verse in the city. I have been reading a lot of stories of people getting U-Verse in large condo buildings and high rises. I was slightly curious about this, but after thinking about it, it makes perfect sense. Putting a VRAD in the basement of a large condo building and selling it to the tenants is a win-win. There is little to no line maintenance required and there are many customers in a small area. After looking further, I have come to the conclusion that my U-Verse service was one of the only installs to ever occur in the city of Chicago that was in a single family home. I also lived on the very edge of the city located to a very developed suburb (Oak Lawn.) So, what does all of this mean for us seeking U-Verse service in the city? Not too sure. I think AT&T is really feeling the financial pinch and doesn't want to dish out a ton of cash to get U-Verse going out here. As most of us know, the quality of copper is not good in town. AT&T would have to spend quite a bit per install in order to get the lines fixed up to support U-Verse. |

2 edits | The U-Verse VRADs here in my town and nearby towns are in many cases on residential streets, but AT&T has been very good about picking spots for them that are off to the side, between two large lots, with shrubs around, and so on, so they're not the first thing the homeowner sees when he looks out his front door. And when they can locate them off residential streets, they do that, too. I think they've used good judgment. |

'that their house will have one sitting near them... ' ATT has made their case but there is always some alderman/councilman that takes a negative approach about such... I feel the reason my area doesn't have U-Verse is due to there is no place to put one,,, West of me has had Verse for at least a year and east of me has had it also for some time... But my small area, NONE... Why...?... because I think there is no place to put one and they don't want some resident complaining at this stage that one is near there dwelling ... |

| reply to wiz561 Don't bother with AT+T U Verse! You'll be rebooting 2 or 3 times a day, and 1/4 of the time when your cable image locks up, you'll also lose your phone and internet service too. Yeah, you'll save a few bucks, but do you really want to miss the end of your movie or sporting event while you're rebooting. As of today, I'm going through my 5th service call, and I don't really think they have any more of a clue than they did the first few times. HEY AT+T, FIX YOUR SYSTEM OR WATCH US ALL GO BACK TO COMCAST! |

All of them in my town are directly right in front of a house. One is in front of a baseball field right by the benches and such. They do shrub them up though. However these arent strategicly aesthetic places, these are just where the previous cabinets were. Which at one point Im sure were more strategic and less aesthetic. |

I found a new AT&T VRAD at S Princeton Ave / W 24th Street Chicago 60616. It's basically in the South Chinatown in Chicago. |

| reply to wiz561 I was speaking to AT&T about upgrading my DSL to Elite from Pro and was told that there are no higher DSL speeds in my area, BUT that U-Verse is coming to my part of town (Chicago Ave & Damen Ave) within the quarter (I am unsure as to whether the tech meant Q3 or Q4) so not to worry.
Supposedly AT&T will have contractors out trying to sign up residents within the coverage area before U-Verse goes live. I guess I can deal with having a slower internet connection until then.
I am a former Fios customer from the days when they were first running test trials. It'll be real nice to be on a "real" internet connection again... being limited to Comcast or AT&T DSL in this city is a travesty!

| reply to wiz561 Near Harlem and Irving in Norridge here, just on the NW edge of Chicago. AT&T U-Verse is available here as of September 7th '09, I have an install pending soon. I've been checking for it every other month or so, checking for availability in the area and can't wait to give U-Verse a go. |
