said by bakalao2k :Comcast in under the impression that U-Verse service won't be available in the city of Chicago this year. I was using U-Verse as leverage to get Comcast to renew my Triple Play promo that expired. My bill went up $30. They won't care until U-Verse luanches and their number of subscribers plummet *hopefully* |

| reply to wiz561 I was driving home the other day and saw a VRAD out of the corner of my eye in Mt. Greenwood. I'm pretty sure it was a vrad, but I just saw it for a sec.
It was around 107th in Central Park Ave. It will be interesting to see where they will place these around here since there is not much land.
I shall keep my eyes open for more that might be popping up! |

| That makes sense. I know they have been working in Oak lawn, and have been running fiber on 95th St.
I will be in Beverly tomorrow and will detour west a few blocks to take a look. Was it on 107th? -- Illegitimati non carborundum

I don't know exactly where it is, but I will try to check it out tomorrow when I drive home. |

| 107th and Central park IS in the city. Mt. Greenwood (or Mt. Greasewood as we called it when I was a teenager).
On the edge, but in the city. Now, if they could get it down to 55th and the lake... -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| reply to wiz561 Well, it does look like U-Verse is FINALLY coming to chicago. On the dog walk tonight, I noticed that on 107th in Trumbull, there is some major construction going on. It looks like they are trenching fiber all the way down 107th street and installing the VRAD's off there.
BTW, the cement block for the VRAD is on 107th in Trumbull. As I am excited to get U-Verse, I am somewhat surprised that they stuck the VRAD right there. I would have thought they would try to put it in the alley or on the telephone pole, and not right on the side of somebody's house. |

1 edit | The only VRAD's I'm hearing about from BBR's.com are in the outskirts of the N. Side. Harwood Heights and Norridge to the west and Niles, Skokie, and Lincolnwood to the North. I haven't heard anything about Evanston which is closer to the Lake. I believe RCN is over in that neck of the woods. |

Front | Elec. Supply Unit |
Here's a VRAD I found in my neck of the woods, on the northwest side of Chicago, in the neighborhood of Edgebrook/Wildwood, on the corner of Caldwell and Mendota Ave. Incidentally, when I went to take a picture, there was an AT&T truck parked right in front of it, and I chatted with the field tech a bit. He said that these things supply a radius of about 3000-4000 ft., with this particular unit being a large one. He also said that AT&T doesn't build any RT's any longer. This unit in Edgebrook will be lit in about 2 weeks. |

| reply to user4275 Up in my neck of the woods around Pulaski and Peterson in Sauganash near Lincolnwood there's a similar looking old cabinet that is in the picture. As of this morning I see red AT&T flags in dirt and spraypaint markings of the underground cable on the sidewalk just next to the cabinet. I didn't see any signs of a plotted future concrete slab being placed.
Just to think of it, I did see a new utility pole laying on the ground not too far away. I'm betting its just ComEd doing some work not too far from the AT&T cabinet. |
