Jon -
What I don't get is that it isn't always in a "profitable" area. They have one at 72nd and Woodlawn, which is a very poor neighborhood - the Southern part of Woodlawn. My hood is right by U of Chicago, big houses, some for over $1 million, Obama's house is less than one mile away, yet they haven't done squat here. Everyone and his bro would go to Uverse if it was offered here. It's beyond my comprehension. -- Illegitimati non carborundum

They're looking at some thing that's driving it. Doesn't mean they're right. But their spread sheet is telling them they are. |

And At&t is testing in chicago, michigan, and california markets "wireless uverse service from the Vrad" What this means is wireless uverse service to the house bypassing copper wire all together.
Can't imagine that would have a very good range without adding a big-ass antenna. With all the people complaining about the boxes as it is, that won't be an easy sell. |

| If it is being tested in the Chicago area, someone must have seen one of the boxes with antenna, or heard about it.
Interestingly, the boxes I've seen down here have not been on residential streets so there hasn't been any bitching (so far). -- Illegitimati non carborundum

Actually, I believe they are testing this equipment but not publicly (on a closed environment) Lab I presume? I had asked someone I know who works with at&t about this and they said they are supposedly going to test it out in the Chicago area(No date given), but who knows if this Idea will ever be implemented, the only con that I see is higher pings (Wireless Vrad Service). Which I hate that after I got U-verse my pings slightly increased, I have had Comcast cable and there pings are crazy (Extremely Low to Very High). After I got U-verse my pings shot up 10-20ms more (than DSL), I was told this is normal which I don't mind that much because they are stable (they stay the same). DSL, I don't know why but it had very low pings to any server in the country. At least in my case.

It looks like a vrad is going in at the other end of my alley in Lincoln Square, by Lawrence and Western. An unmarked van was working on it this morning, and it was first installed 1-2 weeks ago. Still no power. No labels identifying it as AT&T owned. Funny they are being so convert about it. |

said by hdtvtechno22 :AT&T is testing FTTH installs.. thats what i've heard I can honestly say that I can see how that would make sense. Copper is in really bad shape within city limits. Running fresh fiber might cost less in the long run; not to mention the initial work that would need to be done to get the copper up to par. |

@sbcglobal.net | on the ground, where dumpsters used to be. It's right under the ATT wire closet, which is on the pole. |
