Your point is?

His point is there are 8 city blocks in a mile. So 3000' would be 4.54 blocks, or just over half a mile.
Just kidding, I don't really know what his point is. Just a little fact I learned a long time ago.

How the HDTV/HSI quality from AT&T U-Verse? Just got mail inviting me to sign in for $49.99/month for 12 months.

I'm paying Comcast too much for their services.

WOW! Now they are getting close to my house!

It's interesting - 71st and Dorchester is a fairly low-income area and there are much higher income neighborhoods close by. Hopefully this means they are serious about wiring up the entire South Side.

They're really close to me... My friend is just a five minute walk is able to get it, but I'm not... So hopefully I'm getting closer...

Here's a VRAD I found in my neck of the woods, on the northwest side of Chicago, in the neighborhood of Edgebrook/Wildwood, on the corner of Caldwell and Mendota Ave. Incidentally, when I went to take a picture, there was an AT&T truck parked right in front of it, and I chatted with the field tech a bit. He said that these things supply a radius of about 3000-4000 ft., with this particular unit being a large one. He also said that AT&T doesn't build any RT's any longer. This unit in Edgebrook will be lit in about 2 weeks.
I think I found the VRAD that covers the area south of your's at Mendota Ave. It's just up the street at Central and Tahoma, which is just north of the Caldwell and Central intersection.

Haven't seen that one yet, but at that location, it would probably service Edgebrook Towers, and possibly some parts of Lincolnwood. Now that I know that VRADs only go up to 3000 ft, the one at Caldwell/Mendota won't even reach me. I get emails and snail mails from AT&T though, informing me that they're up and running.

There's probably one in your area that you aren't aware of. Over by my immediate area there is major construction with a huge hole in the ground next to a AT&T box that just might be an installment of VRAD's. My confidence isn't strong since the construction crew isn't connected with AT&T and just might be contractors. I'm counting the days when I can get snail mail other than from Comcast Digital Voice . U-verse mail would actually get my attention. The junk from Comcast is only good to be used as coasters.

If your stack of coasters is growing too high, you can stop the Comcast mail, you know. I got tired of their phone calls and promo mail, so I called and they added "DO NOT CALL" and "PRIVACY" line items to my account. They show up on copies of my work orders ever since then. Haven't received any mail or phone calls from them in over a year.

I can confirm a VRAD coming up not too far that'll probably service my area. I see the small section with the electic meter standing now and a big slab waiting for the rest. The local news paper also reassured me that it is indeed U-Verse "project lightspeed" by listing all the planned VRAD installments. Its lengthy so I uploaded it

I hope AT&T starts deploying them in neighborhoods that are near the lakeshore.

Isn't the lakeshore RCN territory?

Only for parts of the North Side - no RCN down here in Hyde Park. And AT&T AND Comcrap are both on the lakefront too. There aren't any designated territories - there may have been at one time, but now everyone can be anywhere they can lay out infrastructure in, at least in the city.

For example, WOW, AT&T, and Comcrap are all in areas of the far South and SW sides.

Me too - sooner the better. Given that the lakefront tends to have pretty good per capita income, I don't understand why they haven't yet.

I know most installations are occuring near the outskirts of the city and the connecting suburbs, but the 71st and Dorchester install got me stumped.

Me too - I live on 55th and Dorchester. It's there; I drove by it today.

Funny thing is, 71st and Dorchester is in South Woodlawn, a poor neighborhood and 55th and Dorchester is Hyde park - not rich, but better off than South Woodlawn.

That VRAD is about a block from where that poor teenage girl riding on a bus was shot and killed by some @#$% who shot into the bus from the outside a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not dissing 71st and Dorchester - I used to take my car to the mechanic on that corner - but AT&T is going to get more Uverse subscriptions in Hyde Park than in South Woodlawn. Hell, I'll be first in line.

I don't know if it matters, but the local CO is on 61st and Dorchester.
