Re: AT&T U-Verse in City of Chicago

I'm in Lincoln Square, Lincoln and Western. Anybody see any VRADS around here?

According to the article I scanned the closest VRAD to Lincoln Square would be the the proposed one west of you at 3256 W. Lawrence which is around Kedzie. There could be more closer to you but I only get the news from a local paper of neighborhoods west of you.

Just a question in general: Is there a limit to the number of homes a VRAD, such as the one I depicted above, can service? Does cabinet size have anything to do with it?

Every VRAD I saw looked the same size

Anyone noticed any in the East Garfield Park/West Taylor area? Maybe close to
I-290 & California?

OK. 55th St just W of South Shore Drive. Almost to where the street ends at LSD.

Looks like a VRAD is being put in. The first box is up, with its characteristic electric meter. Huge cables sticking up out of the ground where the bigger box (hopefully) will go in.

The only AT&T boxes I've seen with electric meters are VRADs. Am I incorrect about this?

I'll try to get a photo up where tomorrow. Any thoughts?

Yeah - what's the coverage? Aren't they going come up here to Obama's neighborhood?

Don't know. Hell, don't know if it is a VRAD or something else relating to just POTS, but my guess is it's a VRAD. If it is, there will be others. We'll see. If Uverse does sahow up it's cheaper than Comcast - I'll jump right on it.

They better - I've been waiting for about a year now.

How large a coverage area does a single VRAD box have? Anyone know?

You mean in distance or capacity? Distance you have to be within 3000' feet of VRAD. When pair bonding comes out it should extend the distance but not sure how far. Last update for pair bonding was end of 2009.

Thanks! I am within 3,000' of that particular box-under-construction, but Obama's house is further away.

There's probably one in your area that you aren't aware of.
Yep, there's one on my street, about 800 ft. from my house that's hidden behind a parking lot of a commercial property. I only found out when the AT&T field tech came out to install U-Verse at my next-door neighbor's house yesterday, and pointed it out to me. I am incredibly happy. Adios Comcast.

I too share your curiosity. All VRAD deployments in my area have seem to become completed. Its only a matter of time before we start getting bombarded with snail mail.

I have an install date of 12/10/08. I'm more excited about that than about Santa.

I have a friend that is 3 blks west of me and has U-Verse and I'm pretty sure the ppl 3 blks east of me have it too... My box is lit but that's about it... Then again I'm not sure I'll be with ATT due to caps so I'm not that excited any more... ....
