| car burglary. fun!
ok so like the title says, my car was burglarized. i left my wallet in there because i always do right? stupid. my wallet was stolen from my car. one of the credit cards was used at a local gas station in san jose. i was wondering if it's possible to locate that gas station union 76 and ask them if they can show me some security tapes. i'm guessing the store number is 00416727. pretty much these are the fraudulent charges i have had so far. and yes i did cancel all my cards already.
06/29/2008 12:23:23 PM EFT POS WTH UNION 76 00416727 SAN JOSE CAUS -$58.04 X $16.96 Edit 06/29/2008 12:23:23 PM EFT POS WTH UNION 76 00416727 SAN JOSE CAUS -$75.00 X $75.00 Edit
one more question. if the manager does let me review security tapes, how long do these security tapes last? do they record up to a week behind? someone fill me in. |

| reply to stopher Why does it have 2 transactions? Yes, I see 58.04 + 16.96 is 75. It's almost as if s/he asked for $75 but was only able to fill $58 worth? I guess I'm used to just seeing one dollar amount per line
If this was done at the pump, does this mean Union 76 doesn't ask for a zip code? Or was your wallet stolen in the zip code of your billing address? |

| reply to stopher I'd leave it up the the CC company and the police (should file a police report if you haven't done so already). Yeah, it sucks but chasing after the jerks who did this might not be wise (i.e. might be bad folks with no remorse in bringing physical harm to you). |

Mine has me Mum's PO Box in Sonoma as the address.

| reply to grendal yeah. i might as well just let the police handle it. i'm the kinda guy that likes to take matters into his owns hands but it's not always the best thing. one more question though. how far do the security tapes go back of a typical gas station?
... like anyone knows. |

Depends on the system. We have several in use, with retainment anywhere from 48 hours up to 7 days before it is overwritten.
Guessing a gas station would be 48-72 hours if you're lucky. -- We were taking a vote when the ground came up and hit us. |

| reply to stopher A co-worker had her purse stolen out of the trunk of her car, 2:00 am after the bar where she had her birthday party had closed. Everyone was gathered around the back of her car saying goodbye. She reported it to the bar and they showed her the surveillance tape. She could see the person taking the purse, but the tape was so fuzzy she couldn't tell who it was. They gave the tape to the police but it isn't much help.
All of these years of CSI watching we assume the tape can be cleared, focused, and a face will appear. Didn't work out that way for her. |

| reply to stopher I saw a parked car broken into in a good neighborhood in San Francisco in broad daylight last week and didn't realize what was happening.
It was on Pine St. around Hyde. Without going into boring detail, the car alarm sounded and I assumed that the nondescript tall fellow at the driver's side window was the driver who had inadvertently set off his own auto alarm. It wasn't until 30 sec. later when the alarm stopped sounding and I looked back to see if the driver had done something to stop it that I noticed, from my new perspective, that the driver's side window was completely smashed from frame to frame. The tall fellow was gone. -- Cordially,

| reply to stopher Aren't POS point of sale, i.e. debit/bank card transactions? I thought for those they need to know a pin number.
I've never had a POS pop-up on my bank statements (I'm damn meticulous about it) for paying credit side of my bank card at a gas station. Ever.
Very weird. -- Moore/Alexander 2008
