[Problem]Belkin N1 Vision: disconnects on a 2-hour intereval

Hi to all,

just recently bought a Belkin N1 Vision (FD8232) wireless router, when i'm playing online games like Cabal Online and World of Warcraft, my connection to the games drops and i instantly get disconnected but i can log back in to the game quickly.

the connection drops on a 2-hour interval, i searched the routersetup page and found the culprit under the security log of the router.

here are the entries under the log:
Sun 2008-06-29 19:14:41 - Router get real time with time-zone -8
Sun 2008-06-29 19:21:41 192.168.3.15 00:13:8F:E8:40:4B Request
Sun 2008-06-29 19:22:12 192.168.3.32 00:16:36:31:DD:EB Request
Sun 2008-06-29 19:28:05 192.168.3.34 00:1E:3A:8E:A3:0A Request
Sun 2008-06-29 19:28:21 192.168.3.34 00:1E:3A:8E:A3:0A Request
Sun 2008-06-29 21:14:49 - Router get real time with time-zone -8

it has something to do with the router's SNTP.. as you can see, it is exactly 2 hours and my connection to the game disconnects every time the router gets real time.

i tried to change different timezones but it still disconnects.

the only option left for me to fix this is to disable the router's SNTP but the problem is there is no option to disable it..

please help me out here.. thanks a lot!

If u face disconnection only when playing online games, try opening ports on the router for that particular game. You can check in the website for TCP & UDP ports. go to 192.168.2.1 with ur browser > select virtual servers under firewalls > enter the numbers in that page

I am having the exact same problem, except it disconnects every 2 hours on a chat program called paltalk. I have done the port forwarding thing for paltalk and it had NO effect. I did a firmware update when I first got the router.

port forwarding, disabling firewall etc doesn't solve the problem.. connection to any live program drops whenever the router requests NTP.

the only solution for this problem is to disable the SNTP of the router itself.. but i still don't have any clue on how to disable it..

I posted this on a couple of other sites hope it helps
from the hidden admin page »192.168.1.1/wukongjiuwo.html adjust ip to suit yours i believe »192.168.2.1/wukongjiuwo.html is out the box

i used ps in the console to list the running process then kill

in my case it was kill 787

this is a temp fix as if the router reboots then the software resets hope it helps for now till belkin get off there ass.

the process will be listed ntp then your time offset btw

Great! Top solution. thanks for posting.

Although it should be Belkin fixing this. I wont buy a Belkin again since they leave us to fix our own problems.

Hi all,

I just bought this router two days ago but its already looking like a wet lettuce.

I have had a crash a day so far and i am also getting the same disconnects, my friends are loving me on Xbox live when i am hosting games and every two hours i get a little message popping up saying XBOX live Disconnected.

I called Belkin technical support here in the UK and went through to one of those quality Indian Call Centres that we all love. They wouldn't listen to me telling them what the problem was and said to turn my Firewall off for two hours and see what happens.

Classic

Having this exact same issue, can't believe I finally found someone else who is experiencing this!

nexy33's post did the trick, for me it was "kill 782" - worked like a charm.

Can those of you with problems and positive experiences (if any ) please post your N1 Vision hardware version number (1000 or 2000) and firmware version number?

I'm having the same problem, I loose connection to the internet many times a day not even being on line. I have to reset the cable modem each time. I have ver 1000 and firmware 1.00.15. Don't understand the kill thing! where and how do you use this etc? If I can't fix this problem the router is going to take a trip out the window. HELP THANKS

New version of the firmware resolves this and a couple of other problems

Link to firmware page @ Belkin

Firmware is universal so will work in all regions

Hi dlnqt,

Belkin recently publicly posted a pre-release firmware for the N1 Vision (v1) that includes the following fix:

"Fix for a problem where the router would drop some connections on 2-hour intervals"

If you do decide to try it out, would you be so kind as to reply to this thread and let us all know if this resolves your challenge?

So, if I understood jdpiii3's post correctly, the lastest firmware for version 2000 (hardware) of the N1 Vision does NOT address this issue?

I just got this router and, as usual, come to dslreports to check for the latest on issues and fixes.
I have not had a chance to use it much, but I did notice some wireless disconnects when logged into an online poker site the other day.

I will monitor it tonight to see if it is happening every 2 hours.
If so, barring a firmware fix, I will kill the ntp process using nexy33's trick.
Thanks for that trick by the way

By the way, is the "console" where I issue the command part of the hidden admin page???
I am not sure from where I would issue the kill command and would appreciate a little more detail / help on that part...

I am away from home, so if it is self-evident once accessing the hidden admin page, then forgive the question.

Thanks!

Not to worry.
I got home and it is indeed self-explanatory once you access the hidden page.
I hope Belkin is reading this and will come up with a firmware fix for v. 2000 of the N1 Vision.

I am going to make sure my wireless connection actually disconnects (will know in about an hour according to the security log - Tue 2008-11-04 xx:xx:xx - Router get real time with time-zone -5) before killing the process.

My wireless seems to disconnect (and re-connect automatically in under a minute) roughly every 2 hours, BUT it seems to always be ten full minutes before the ntp task occurs!!!

I'll have to verify this again tonight.
The ntp task is at roughly 10 after the odd hours (e.g. 17:10, 19:10 etc.).
The disconnect seems to be occurring roughly at 17:00, 19:00

I have power saving off.
I had originally thought it was Comodo Firewall Pro, which was causing disconnects about the same frequency on same laptop but with my pre-N router and built-in G (didn't happen before Comodo) but I uninstalled Comodo Firewall Pro (I do think the uninstall ran into some problems and I had to use a utility to get it completely off (that is if I recall correctly).

Power saving is off for the adapter under 'power management' in the adapater properties in Device Manager!
Also have 'allow to turn off wireless' disabled in the separate "power" options (found under Windows control panel).

Any ideas on other things I can check?
Is there an alternative to Windows-supplied event viewer? It shows nothing at that time!!!!
