Re: Verizon Channels are Here in Fort Wayne!

Also very interested on the Golf/Versus lineup...
I really would like Versus HD without going to the sports package. Can anyone in Fort Wayne confirm that VersusHD isn't part of a sports package?
Glad TBN is back on and NFLNet... VZ came thru woooo hooooo!

also if someone gets a chance, I am curious what happens when you try to tune to any of the "MLB ExtraInnings, or CenterCourt, or NHL's Center"? Thanks

Why did they start with Indiana? No one wants to answer our questions
I guess the couple people who have it there are busy?

I think you answered your own question right there -- start with the smallest subscriber base so that if they screwed anything up it affects the least number of people.

Thats Why NY and CA are always last. Indiana gets to test out the product before we get it!

Well, we got to test out the IMG when it first went public, I would be glad to do the same with these channels

Is it at all possible that if everything goes well in Indiana Verizon will move up the dates for adding channels in the other cities? Or is there regulation that prevents this from happening (e.g. 30 day advance notice)?

I think the main reason that Indiana and Oregon are the first for upgrades is that they were the last FIOS systems to be built, and were %100 digital from the beginning. No analog shutdown process to go though.

Indiana had an analog shutdown process. Pittsburgh didn't.

I think the 30 day advance notice requirement still applies. The advance notice does not apply to adding new channels at unused channel numbers, but for moving channels or for that matter, removing channels. This is really a legacy of all analog systems where there is/was no guide data. People might sit down to watch the Home Shopping Network on channel 65 and instead find another another there with no idea where the shopping channel ended up. People taping shows manually with VCRs before they go on vacation would want a lot of advance notice. With digital guides, really don't need 30 days notice, but the rules are still in place.

So, no I would not expect the posted dates on the Fios channel line-up web page to move up. As for why Fort Wayne, IN. It was close to the last VHO to be added; Fort Wayne is DMA #107 in population. Verizon likely has the fewest subscribers there so far among all the VHOs, so as noted, it is a logical guinea pig market. Notice the 3 weeks between Fort Wayne roll-out and NY. Then the channel revamp & HD channel expansion pace speeds up. Need a initial shakedown block to fix problems, make sure all the channels are coming in, make sure the new channel maps are working right, time to refine the procedures for adding a whole bunch of channels at once, AND time to get the CSRs ready with memos/classes to handle a flood of phone calls (well, to the extent that the CSRs will ever be "ready"). Verizon does not appear to be doing a very good job of notifying people, but even they were, there will still be a flood of phone calls from people who can't figure out that their favorite channels have been moved.

Just three weeks notice here in OR.

Notice the 3 weeks between Fort Wayne roll-out and NY.
Don't forget about OR on 7/21...

My bad. I should have said OR. But the new Oregon line-up was posted back in mid-June, more than 30 days before 7/21. The official established schedule so far, based on what is shown on the Verizon channel line-up page:

6/30 Fort Wayne IN
7/21 Portland OR
7/23 NY
7/30 Northern NJ
8/06 Pittsburgh

Maybe we will see line-ups & dates for several more VHOs posted at the end of the work week, which would be this Thursday? My guess is that Richmond & Norfolk, VA VHO will show up next.

FL, TX, and then CA is dead last. The actual order may well change, though probably not by much.

From »www.engadgethd.com/2008/06/30/fi···t-wayne/ :

Right on schedule, Verizon's FiOS TV gets with the HD program and over doubles its lineup in at least one market, as the lucky devils in Fort Wayne IN get access to 23 new HD channels today. Now usually Verizon likes to roll out national channels nation wide on the same day, but because it is in the middle of shuting off all the analog channels, the lineups are being realigned market by market. Ironically, the new channels seem to be rolling out in the opposite order of the intial Verizon FiOS TV rollout, in which the initial two markets to get the service, are the last to get the upgrade. But even those poor souls in Tampa FL and Keller TX can expect all the HD goodness within the next 60 to 120 days.

Verizon have only put the new line-ups on their east coast server, so many of us can't see them yet. When it comes to Verizon's websites, they show incredible ineptitude. Every single aspect of their websites require their own name/password and most of the features don't work or don't exist.

At least I know I'm not the only one. The same thing was happening to me this morning. Now that I'm on my home machine, all the lineups are showing again. Really weird.
Anyway, here's the new Pitts lineup:

Providing a direct link to the PDFs doesn't help those that don't see the link right on the website as the website they're hitting doesn't have the link OR the PDF.

You're better off downloading the PDF and then uploading to the forum as someone else in the Channel Realignment thread did -- I just re-posted the link to the version uploaded to this site (not the Vz site).
